Freaking awesome!
I’ve had it for a month now and love it!I use it for work and gaming and I’m not a hardcore gamer. I please games like counter strike, WOT, WOW, Fortnite and back for blood. It runs them all flawless on ultra graphics settings so I’m happy. It also runs my office software wonderfully.Couldn’t be happier for $1k compared to the big names $750 laptops that can’t do anything without crashing.

It’s a good laptop but…
Honestly, this laptop is pretty good. I did upgrade the ram and added another m.2 drive (hardware not included…really?) If you contact support they will give you the hardware plus a thermal pad, make sure when you are putting the m.2 in that the thermal pads are on the top of the m.2 and not on the bottom. Then remove the protective film from the bottom chassis of the laptop. Some complaints I have, this may be a personal preference though. The charging port on the left side really doesn’t work for me. I feel that the charger is always laying on top of your feet or laptop. The charging port is also quite loose as well. The other thing is, is the FN keys are to the left why are you putting FN command key on the right? The volume control buttons could also be FN and the arow keys instead of it being F3. I use the volume control more often than fan control and a crosshair for FPS games.Other than that, it is a good laptop.Update: I have been using this laptop for some time now, and can get over some of the cons that I noticed when I first bought it. However, 1 thing that I will say is the charging port needs to be improved. The charger keeps popping out of the charging port, all the time. I know one reason is, that it is on the left side but it is EXTREMELY loose. I have never had a laptop with such a loose charging port and is a real inconvenience. Every time I have this laptop charging, the power cord constantly falls out of the port. Gets really annoying that most of the time I end up having to hold the plug into the port to keep it charging.

Great purchase if its on sale
MSI Katana 15 B13V (13620H + 4070)I love this laptop. It is unfortunately Windows 11. The GPU I got is a 105-watt 4070 and it runs amazingly while it is plugged into the wall. The screen is 1080p 144hz, wish it was at least 1440p for a 4070 laptop. Battery life is great when you aren’t gaming on it. It lasts a few hours of browsing, watching, and doing work on it. The CPU is an i7 13620H and it’s quick! The 4070 and 13620H are such a good pair. The RGB on the laptop keyboard can be changed through MSI Center. Also, for a laptop, it has really good speakers and not too much bass, but it sounds very clear, even at max volume. If you wanna upgrade the RAM, the fastest and most space you can get is DDR5 2×32 gb at 5200 MHz. It comes with 16 GB at 5200 MHz. The GPU is a 4070 and integrated graphics on the CPU, it switches between the 2 depending on how intense the application is, but you can manually choose one in MSI Center. I got it from Open Box (Brand New) for $1400 after taxes. Totally a steal at $1400 INCLUDING TAX!

Powerful enough, but the touchpad feels cheap
It’s a great machine, for me (as animator) it works perfectly. For Gaming, at least with the games that I have (Fortnite, Street Fighter V, Battlefield 5 and so) it runs smoothly. The couple of things I don’t like about it are the plastic case material… It’s not bad quality, but it feels cheap, specially the screen case and the touchpad (I have a TUF DASH F15 2022 and the case is plastic too, but it feels “premium”). -Ah and the horrrible MSI Sticker breaks the aesthetic…-And the terrible sound quality… It’s similar to use a the speaker of a mid-range cellphone…Overall is a good machine… 🙂

Poor upgradability and mediocre display
I was attracted to this laptop because it is the only laptop at this price point that comes with an RTX 4070.The disk space and especially RAM are meager at 1TB and 16GB, respectively, but I figured that wouldn’t be an issue since MSI says the laptop supports up to 64GB of memory and can take another hard drive. However, that’s where the problem starts. If you were to open the laptop, you would find the other M2 slot is blocked by a piece of rubber and there are no mounting screwports.A quick search of the internet will reveal the fine print: “contact MSI support to upgrade the SSD.”So what does that mean? Well, if you contact them, you find you need a special bracket part from the manufacturer that isn’t included, and you have to ask them to send it to you. They claim it was a “manufacturing error,” but my guess is that they were just hoping you wouldn’t ask and they could still claim it “supports two SSDs.” While that’s technically true, practically it isn’t, because you have to t register your laptop then reach out to them to request the special mounting kit.The whole ordeal has really soured me on what would otherwise be a very nice laptop. So keep that in mind if you’re expecting to upgrade this. And it only supports M2 stick drives; no SATA.

Desktop performance in a laptop
I bought the Katana 15 B13V with 16 GB of DDR5 Ram, RTX 4070 gpu, and i7-13620H cpu on Prime Day marked down to $1349 from $1599.I primarily bought this because my desktop’s motherboard uses DDR4 and is becoming dated and I wanted to play Baldur’s Gate 3 at max settings. I’d like to build another desktop, but want to drop that kind of money until DDR6 is a thing instead of building it in the middle of the DDR5 Lifecycle. That’s still a few years out.So this was a great purchase for my needs. It is literally desktop performance in a laptop at a mid-range price.Let’s start with the cons and why I don’t careThe display isn’t the best. Don’t get me wrong, its great, but not anything special. That doesn’t bother me, because its connected to my 4k monitor. Who cares about laptop screens anyway. 4k resolution doesn’t make much of a functional difference on a small screen. Costs were cut there for sure. Costs were probably also cut on the battery. It doesn’t last long not plugged in on normal loads, and its probably not even feasible to use it unplugged while gaming. This would suck if I planned to use it unplugged, but again, this matters not to me. There is also a technology implemented called CoolerBoost 5. Its pretty necessary to run when gaming newer games at max settings. It gets PlayStation loud. If you’re an audiophile, then you’re going to need some good noise-canceling headphones to really enjoy anything on this machine. This doesn’t bother me, because I’m not an audiophile, and even if I was, I have a couple great sets of noise-canceling headphones. It also doesn’t bother me because without it, all of the great things about this thing wouldn’t mean squat…. let me explain…Now for the Pro’sThis thing runs great without load on balanced power settings (No CoolerBoost). Without CoolerBoost, its about as quiet as it comes. I only use it for browsing and playing music outside of gaming. It does great. I haven’t tried watching any 4k videos on it yet, but I imagine it would handle that well on balanced power settings as well.Remember when I mentioned the noise level from the CoolerBoost 5 as a con. Well, Coolerboost is probably just as important of a feature as any of the hardware this machine packs. Gaming laptops get a bad rep, mostly because they literally burn up a lot faster than a desktop and are difficult and expensive to fix when they do. The reason being is inadequate cooling. This is a tiny box to fit all of those extreme heat producing components in. Getting desktop-like cpu temps and gpu temps in a laptop should be a pipedream. Seeing temps in the 85-90 degree Celsius range or higher is just part of the territory. With CoolerBoost on, this thing hangs in the 60-75 degree range with BG3 running max settings. That’s as good or better than my desktop. Have you heard of temp-throttling? Yeah, that’s only a thing if you let it be a thing with this machine. That said, without CoolerBoost active while running BG3 at max settings, I watch those temps move to the Upper 80s and low 90s, like one would expect with this kind of hardware in such a small box. It is well worth the noise to have a machine packing an i7 13th gen chip and RTX 4070 gpu that can sport desktop temps while actually using the hardware at its potential.Final ThoughtsThis machine is fantastic if you’re looking to replace a desktop with a laptop that will likely last. All of the right corners have been cut. Due to the temps sitting at desktop level, I anticipate the hardware components to potentially last indefinitely. This will still be a very serviceable and more portable machine when I do get my desktop built. The potential issues I see are needing to replace fans at some point due to the CoolerBoost. They could also last too, its just a possible logical consequence of running the fans at high RPMS. I imagine the most important fix that I’ll run across is replacing the battery. Those things will always go bad eventually, but more quickly if there are periods of high humidity in your gaming area. Think about spring or fall days where the AC isn’t running. Years of that will kill a battery.

An excellent gaming laptop for the price
I purchased this laptop to replace my 2021 ASUS ROG Strix G15 gaming laptop, and I am not disappointed.Pros:- Not too heavy. Definitely lighter than the ASUS!- Not as loud as my ASUS when the fan kicks on- For the price, it is pretty snappy! I got 1TB of SSD space, and 16GB RAM, and so far, I’ve played games like Starfield at high or higher settings.- The Gaming Mode is intelligent enough to clock down when the laptop is under light load, and clock up when a game starts, which is niceCons:- The battery life sucks. I expected that, so I’m not upset about it. Kinda par for the course for gaming laptops- The screen is 1080p. It looks fine, not the nicest I’ve seen, but it is decent and has a good refresh rate, so it isn’t a *big* deal.- The fan does get loud when playing game. Once again, I kind of expected that.- When playing a game, and the fan spins up, the left side of the laptop gets pretty warm, so watch your hand!Overall I am very pleased with this purchase!

Capable gaming laptop, decent battery life, room to upgrade
If you are looking for a laptop to play the latest games at high fidelity and not wanting to spend a fortune look no further… When I travel, I use this laptop for both work and play… Battery life is decent… but bring the power brick with you if going to a meeting lasting more than a couple of hours… or doing any gaming… Wifi is much better than my previous laptop… get more bars further away… Screen is FHD, I prefer 2K but on a 15″ screen I can’t see the difference. I have hooked up to 2K monitors at home and it still produces decent frame rates. There is room to upgrade. Easy to replace memory with either 2 -16GB or 2 – 32GB SODIMM DDR5 memory sticks, and there is a slot for second NVMe SSD drive (though no mounting screw, so you have to work around that.Seems to cool fine even under load, but you will hear the fans… form factor is decent, but you can find better… just a question of dollars. So again, looking for high end gaming laptop for minimun dollars this is a good choice. I have had a number of MSI laptops over the years and they have performed well with little or no issues.

Seems to be fast and efficient
I have only had this a short time but this has really been a nice machine. I have even used it for VR games and it doesn’t bog it down a bit. I haven’t decided yet if the problems I’m seeing with it are garbage installed by MSI or garbage from Windows. I don’t care for the pop up adds for the junk I don’t want or need.Oh I will get it all weeded out eventually, I just miss the days when you all the crap was offered elsewhere and didn’t come force installed at new.The laptop itself looks great the display is clean and amazing to look at and use.I’m very pleased with the small weight of this machine, I think its predecessor is 3x heavier.I’m not pleased by the lack of USB ports found on this machine, but I did find a reasonably priced hub that turns one Type C port into 4 USB3 ports so I can get all the dongles plugged in and still have room for the important things. The laptop does seem to put out a lot of heat, but once I got it elevated on my laptop stand it doesn’t seem as bad. (Perhaps the vents aren’t large enough to allow the heat to escape properly when it’s close to the desk) I would even suggest a laptop cooling pad. But I think that would be good in any situation.

Excellent Performance
Specs wise this laptop offered everything I wanted for mostly light gaming. I’ve been able to run everything I normally play at high settings with no hiccups. At this price range I’m not sure you can find much better. The screen size is perfect but the screen performance is anything but. The display just seems dull, especially when playing in an environment that has a good amount of daylight.

Had my doubts about the screen
I had my doubts about the screen, the only real down fall. Though after I tasted how good and performant it was, all my worries transformed into excitement, each one of my games suddenly ran at over 100 fps, it was everything I really wanted, so I could get over this slightly dull looking display, specially for this price!

Amazing
I love the laptop. They sent me what I wanted including all details they mentioned. High performance for gaming and easy to code on its keyboard. Unfortunately, the monitor isn’t strong that much for such a system. But an external portable monitor will solve the problem. I don’t need a bigger screen. So, I am fine with it.

Great all rounder
Love it! It been a great machine, not really much for complaints. Gets hot when playing high capacity games but runs really well. I think it could do with more fans, just a personal preference. Only thing that I have a complaint with is that occasionally it will have small technical issues, such as key board not working. But that could be oporator error. Not quite sure though…. Great laptop, love it. Would buy again!

It’s great, plays amazing the graphics are surreal for my first gaming laptop. Still learning about its functionality and familiarizing myself with its other capabilities but it’s an amazing device. 1 negative is the battery life dies a little quicker than I like I will probably change that later.

Great Performance. Housing is very basic. MSI software is a bit janky.
It was cheaper to buy this laptop than to upgrade my PC to the same specs. I don’t love the housing. It’s very simple slick shiny plastic with fake screws and a pretty cheap feel. My biggest complaint is MSI’s software. Sometimes it works.

Get more ram for gaming/3d work
If youre using it for basic internet surfing, you solid. But for gaming and heavy hitting editing, upgrade & install 32GB of RAM. The hardware is strong and smooth, but it’s needs more ram to make it run smoother on Ultra settings in games. When playing older games you’re solid, but when playing newer games or from the Xbox One/ps4 era on Ultra 60fps+, you need more ram. Compare this to a bugatti with a small fuel tank. Car is good and can go good for miniscule driving to the store, but if you want that car to rev for fast long distance driving/crazier racing (which of course it can) you’ll need a bigger fuel tank (hense the ram upgrade)

Nice laptop
I use this laptop for typical uses, but, important to me, photo editing. I love it. I really have no complaints, other than there was no SD card slot, as there was on a different MSI model I had previously. This one is smaller than my old one, lighter, and easier to travel with. Good battery life. Great graphics.

Solid Gaming Laptop
Solid laptop right out of the box. Probably the easiest laptop to open up to do upgrades to. Was able to upgrade the RAM to 32GB easily. Only real complaint is that for the second NVMe slot there is no hole or screw or anything. There is a foam block there so I cut a piece out to use it to help hold down the drive and also have some protection from the top. I keep the laptop docked on a station so shouldn’t really be an issue, but we’ll see how it fairs when I have to travel with it.

4070 FTW!!
So this laptop doesn’t look as fancy as it’s competitors but it performs well. I run this at 1440p @ 144 Hz and play WoW on it with my game settings dialed in at 7 and I hardly dip below 100 fps unless I’m in a raid or a major city. If you need to run 4k I would look into a 4080 laptop but this one runs just fine for me

I’m in love with this laptop
I bought this laptop to upgrade my old Lenovo ideaPad Y700 with a GTX 960M. The MSI Katana 15 B13V is a great way to get an RTX 4070 laptop at a great price.Gaming is pretty good with it and I’m happy with the 1080p 144Hz screen. I upgraded the to 64GB RAM for video production and replaced the stock M.2 NVMe with a Kingston Fury and it doubled the speeds of data transfer.I’ll update my review if something relevant happens in the future, but some months with it and I’m in love!

Nice gaming laptop
Gift for my son for Christmas and he is loving it. It handles every game he plays very well, at very high frame rates and high setting. He has it connected to a 32” curved 1080p monitor and in most games he is getting 200-250 fps. The fan can get a bit loud when running the video heavy games but he uses headphones most of the time so the loud fan noise isn’t an issue. The screen on the laptop is also pretty good for when he takes the laptop to friends to play. SDD is fine only the RAM we may need to upgrade in the near future. But all in all a very solid gaming laptop.

Laptop is Definitely a W
I had this for about a week now been playin non stop. I am a comp player so I am all about frames. I had a desktop before this got tired of not being able to be mobile with something so I switched over to laptop. This laptop by far beat my expectations. Max settings no problem on any game I’ve played. easily 150+-200fps no stutters/problems as well. I also play connected to a 360hz monitor for the majority of my gaming so the display means nothing to me really, but when I am on the go it still does not disappoint. Only thing I plan to do is upgrade ram and storage. Other than that I have zero complaints really

Good performance overall, mediocre battery life
Would recommend it for anyone planning on using it while plugged, the GPU and CPU combinations are quite solid for gaming, the keyboard feels great and its RGB can be customized via Mystic Lights in MSI Center (had to reinstall it for the feature to start working), the screen is somewhat okay when used in dark to slightly bright environments, an additional NVMe can be installed (though the laptop has a design flaw where there is no spot where to screw the second NVMe in place), but the most glaring issue in my opinion is the battery life, I was surprised to see that it couldn’t sustain a 2 hour long Netflix movie even when starting from a full charge.Overall, it’s still a decent product for the price.

Powerful gaming machine
This laptop has been amazing so far to play starfield. I was surprised that It was able to handle Ultra settings at 4K at 60 fps with overclocking. The fans do a good job at keeping the unit cool. This machine can handle any AAA title at high settings with no compromise to FPS. But playing games with DLLS is where this machine shines. No issues whatsoever. While the battery life leaves a lot to be desired, I got this machine mostly for gaming at home connected to a 1440 monitor. At that task this laptop excels. Happy with this purchase so far. I did get in contact with MSI to send me the hardware needed for the extra SSD M.2 slot. I do not expect this to be an issue.
