Two plus years later I finally landed one!

I just wanted to give a couple of quick points of note since everyone knows the console by now through reviews if nothing else.First, it should be noted that this is an updated version of the PS5 which has a new motherboard design for better cooling and power efficiency. Tech websites have tested both the original (1000 series) as well as first updated version (1100 series) and then this one (1200 series). The first two series had the same motherboard design, but the 1200 series has a much smaller motherboard and cooling design which is 2.5 pounds lighter by themselves. A couple of friends have the 1100 series bought a year ago and they are noticeably heavier.Second, the slight tulip shaped case design really does not like being laid to the side like previous PS consoles that could be horizontal or vertical for cabinet diversity. It just looks wrong and is not stable. That said, I bought the PS5 mostly for GT7 and other racing games and am not disappointing in 4K quality running a Gigabyte Aorus 48″ OLED 120Hz gaming monitor (LG C1 based OLED panel). I already have a $2,850 high end PC gaming rig built around an RTX 3080 Ti video card for that monitor, and for the $500 retail price in Blu Ray form, I can honestly say for the first time ever a console can hold its own in the gaming world up against we PC gods at the highest resolutions and frame rates!

    A bit of a shock.

I’m not good with changes. Purchased this because I thought the ps4 had broken. Did fix the ps4, but kept this anyway. The thing is, when I first got it, it seemed wall to wall advertising. And there seems a lot more. But, when I became used to things, and understood all I was seeing, it became… better.Much of the flash is information, some of which is actually useful. The advertising is generally targeted well, not based on me, but the games I am playing.A bit of maneuvering around, sorting controls and inputs, and such, and yes, it is an upgrade. The faster load times are a major hook. Just the ssd, but that works. Happy I have it now, and don’t use the ps4 anymore. Sad thing sits there and commiserates with the ps3. :p If need be, I can go back to those. Who ever knows, these days.

What’s not to love? It’s a PS5. Great delivery time from the seller and a prompt response to a query I had. No complaints here. I am in love with this upgrade over my PS4. Been a gamer my whole life and PlayStation is the best console to game on imo.

    Died after static shock

While this is a great product it has terrible ESD protection. I got my console in July 2023, put tons of hours into it, and one static discharge from my finger to the USB port killed it completely after a year and a half.Static discharge is an easily solved problem in electrical engineering so I guess Sony just skimped out on proper ESD protection. At this cost it should be far more robust than it is.

Arrived on the same day and supports PS4 games

The good:- The new controller is awesome! I recommend playing the free Astro’s Playroom tech demo game that shows off all the features. That game is way better than it has any right to be and is a great introduction to the controller’s capabilities. I hope lots of future games utilize the DualSense controller to the same extent.- Backwards compatible with PS4 games. I have a large library of physical PS4 games, so it’s great that I get to still enjoy them on the PS5 with improved performance. Some PS4 games like FF7 Remake even include a free PS5 upgrade. It was easy to migrate my games and save files from my PS4 with an external drive and PS Plus cloud saves.- Fantastic performance. The load times are incredibly fast on most modern games. The bad:- WiFi connection is noticeably weaker than on the Xbox One X. I don’t recommend using the online features unless you’re using a wired connection. Even stuff like buying games in the PS Store is needlessly slow and unstable.- No themes or wallpapers. I liked to customize my PS4 with themes and custom wallpapers. Unfortunately the PS5 does not support that as of the writing of this review, so you’re stuck with the boring default user interface.- Lack of exclusive games. Currently the PS5 does not have enough console-specific exclusives to make it stand out in today’s gaming scene. The Demon’s Souls remake and Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart are excellent, but we need more. I know we’re also going to get FFXVI soon, but I doubt it will stay as a console exclusive for long.Overall:This is a great console, but I only recommend buying it for the backwards compatibility for gamers who own a lot of PS4 games. It’s also worth getting if you don’t already own a good gaming PC or an Xbox One X and want to play some next-gen games.

The PS5 is great for today’s gamers as well as the old time gamers. For me however it’s excellent but some of today’s games are difficult. I still have a lot of fun with my PS5.

    Another console on the shelf

As an avid gamer and someone who owns all of the Sony consoles, this one was a no-brainer for me to buy. I don’t play many console games now as I mainly game on my PC, but with Final Fantasy games being PS exclusives it was a needed purchase.Graphics output is amazing, with every game played so far jaw dropping. The refresh rate is also an improvement from the PS4. Another improvement is the fact that the disc drive isn’t as loud as the PS4.The controller is one of those “make or break” parts of the console that can really define your gameplay. The new controller looks sexy, and feels great in my hands. The TouchPad has had improvements from the PS4 version, and the response is great. It’s like if Microsoft and Sony had a controller love-child.Enough puns aside, this is a great console. I will always suggest purchasing a disc version over digital as having physical games will always be a way to keep games alive. Whether you’re new to Sony, or returning for the next console…the PS5 is well on its way to being a great console, just needs more PS5 exclusives to really justify the full upgrade.

    Christmas gift

I got this as a Christmas gift for my son and he has had it for 5 months now. So far it’s worked fine. It has crashed and glitched a few times but I don’t know if that’s because of the console or internet. He loves it though.

4K gaming, vast game library, gorgeous graphics

PS5Why it’s great:1. UHD, QHD and FHD graphics brilliantly rendered at 60Hz (or higher with a pricey 120Hz monitor); more solid, seamless and textured characters and environments than ever to achieve greater immersion experiences2. Load times of 12-20 seconds for AAA games. No more minutes of waiting to play GTA, Witcher or COD. Totally surpasses the PS4. PS4 compatible games load even faster and run smoother.2. Exclusives (God of War, FF VII remake, Gran Turismo, Demon Souls remake, Ratchet & Clank, Spider Man) , compatible with PS4 titles, AAA, indy and casual titles3. Transfer PS4 data4. Controller feels great, looks great, and battery-free; haptic feature simulates the feel of on-screen action (can be turned off)5. OS is easy and logical to use functions and apps quickly, voice command6. Fairly quiet, doesn’t sound like a jet engine.7. Cross-play – play with PC and Xbox owners for certain titles, not all of themWhere it needs improvement:1. Size – as big or bigger than the PS32. Price – purchase, taxes, and one new game will cost near $600. Game are $65-70 in some cases.3. Online – online games restricted without PS Plus.4. Backwards compatibility – PS4 games only. PS3, 2 and 1 won’t run.5. SSD is great but quickly fills up if you play lots of AAA games.6. Design – designed like a thick binder that’s coming apart, not that it affects anything besides decor aesthetics7. Voice command – handles basic commands but can’t do specific things like “Load Gran Turismo”

NO VR SUPPORT FOR F1 2023

If you are buying this to upgrade your PS4 F1 2023 game, don’t do it. The PS5 hardware is fine, even like the VR headset! EA has released that they will not support VR on the PS5 VR2 system. Don’t know why, but EA don’t seem to care about PS5. The best VR headset to date and no EA support. Even tried GT 7, I don’t like the forced challenges when I don’t know the game. I’ve got over 100 hours on f1 2023 on other platforms, they didn’t transfer over to PS5 either. I’m just not a traditional gamer to spend $500 to play old PlayStation games, or even watch TV on my console, most of us have computers and watch TV there. Should have upgraded my computer!Sorry Sony, was hoping you were still the one and only. Sorry EA is being a ____! Prolly should get my money back…EDIT: I take it back about GT7. Seems Sony compensated for the EA loss. Been having a blast with GT7 and the lightweight VR set. Guess its time to learn GT racing… See ya

    Great Product

I mean it is a PlayStation 5 of course we love it. It has been a great addition to our game systems and the graphics are incredible. You are able to use controllers wirelessly or have a direct connection via usb ports. Has a decent amount of storage. No issues with power button or disc eject buttons sticking. With the ps5 we got we are able to use a physical disc or download games directly to the system. Haven’t had any issues with it over heating.

    **Review for PlayStation 5 (PS5)**

**Review for PlayStation 5 (PS5)**The PlayStation 5 (PS5) has been a game-changer in the world of console gaming since its launch. After spending several months with the system, I can confidently say that it lives up to the hype. Here are my thoughts on its features, performance, and overall value.**Design and Build Quality:**The PS5 has a striking and modern design that stands out in any entertainment setup. Its sleek white and black aesthetic, combined with subtle LED lighting, gives it a futuristic look. The console is larger than its predecessor, but the design is well thought out, allowing for vertical or horizontal placement without compromising airflow.**Performance:**The performance of the PS5 is nothing short of impressive. Powered by a custom AMD processor, it delivers stunning graphics and fast load times, thanks to its ultra-high-speed SSD. Games load almost instantly, allowing you to dive right into the action without the frustrating wait times typical of previous consoles. The 4K gaming capability is also a significant upgrade, providing beautiful visuals that enhance the gaming experience.**Game Library:**The PS5 boasts an expanding library of exclusive titles and cross-platform games. Games like “Demon’s Souls,” “Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart,” and “Returnal” showcase the console’s capabilities and provide immersive experiences that are hard to match. Backward compatibility with a large number of PS4 titles is also a huge plus, allowing players to enjoy their existing library with improved performance.**DualSense Controller:**One of the standout features of the PS5 is the DualSense controller. The haptic feedback and adaptive triggers add a new layer of immersion that enhances gameplay. You can feel the tension in the triggers during intense moments, and the subtle vibrations provide feedback that makes you feel more connected to the game. The built-in microphone and speaker are also convenient for quick chats without needing a headset.**User Interface:**The PS5’s user interface is sleek and intuitive, making it easy to navigate between games, settings, and the PlayStation Store. The Control Center provides quick access to essential features without interrupting gameplay, enhancing the overall user experience.**Final Thoughts:**Overall, the PlayStation 5 is an outstanding console that offers an innovative gaming experience. With its impressive performance, beautiful graphics, and unique controller features, it’s a must-have for both hardcore gamers and casual players alike. While the availability can be challenging at times, it’s worth the effort to get your hands on one. If you’re looking for a console that pushes the boundaries of gaming, the PS5 is definitely the way to go.

    No complaints here

The PlayStation 5 is an absolute powerhouse! From the moment I unboxed it, I was blown away by its sleek design and futuristic look. The performance is top-tier, with lightning-fast load times thanks to the SSD, and the graphics are stunning—games run smoothly in 4K with beautiful detail and fluid frame rates. What really sets the PS5 apart is the DualSense controller. The adaptive triggers and haptic feedback add an immersive touch that makes every game feel more engaging, whether you’re drawing a bow or feeling terrain shifts under your virtual car’s tires. Backward compatibility is another plus, letting me enjoy my PS4 library with better performance. The interface is clean and easy to navigate, and features like game hints and the ability to jump between activities make gaming more seamless than ever. Whether you’re into single-player adventures or online multiplayer, the PS5 is a game-changer. Highly recommend it to anyone looking for the ultimate gaming experience!

    Review After One Month

The PS5 arrived fairly quickly and was in good shape upon arrival. Now, regarding the console itself. The PS5 has a ‘unique’ design and is easily the biggest video game console I’ve ever seen. Due to its sheer size, I’ve had to place it horizontally within my media center where it’s a bit difficult to access the disc drive. The console came with a short HDMI 2.1 cable (capable of supporting 120fps if both your TV and the game you’re playing support it too) and a generously sized USB cable for plugging in the controller or charging it. The game “Astro’s Playroom” comes preinstalled and is an enjoyable, albeit short, game which you can use to familiarize yourself with the controller and console. The console is advertised as having 825GB of storage, but only 667GB are usable so I’d recommend buying either an external HDD or a compatible nvme SSD for extra storage. PS5 games load extraordinarily fast and PS4 games enjoy faster loading times as well. Even XCOM2, which barely chugged along the PS4, runs smooth as butter. That said, install times are still rather long and it takes a while to transfer games to/from my HDD and SSD.Despite claiming 8k on the box, I’m not aware of any games that are capable of natively supporting it. While the console does support 4k resolution and 120fps, you’ll need to find games that do so too. While some games will run at 4k/60fps, others will have resolution vs. performance modes that’ll sacrifice either resolution or framerate to ensure the game runs well. The DualSense controller is appealing to the eye, has an ergonomic design, and the built-in haptic feedback is very pleasing to experience whenever a game supports it. My only complaint is that the battery life is somewhat poor and seems to charge slowly whenever plugged into something that’s not a PS5. As such, I’d recommend charging the controller while playing a game or while the PS5 is in rest mode. The PS5’s Wi-Fi adapter is an improvement over the PS4’s. It supports both 2.4ghz and 5ghz. I’ve noticed my downloads running faster on the PS5 than the PS4 while on the same network. The PS5’s backwards compatibility with PS4 games seems to work pretty well. Most games (especially ones with PS4 Pro patches) run extremely well and you can play them with a PS4 controller if you’d like. The only downside is that installing PS4 games seems to add to the PS5’s “other” storage space. All games now have an install progress bar, and you can now separately delete DLC from games. As far as problems go, I’ve found that the PS5’s UI leaves something to be desired and I’ve occasionally run into small software problems, usually whenever installing, moving, or deleting games. Additionally, when I plugged in my external HDD for the first time, half of its game library was seemingly deleted. I now suspect that it’s due to most of the games not being fully installed, something that I’ve now remedied on the PS5 and have not experienced again.Overall, I’m pretty satisfied with my purchase so far and find it to be a worthwhile upgrade to my aging PS4. If you own physical PS4 games or prefer physical game copies in general, buy the PS5 disc edition. If you go all digital, get the cheaper digital edition. Aside from the presence (or lack thereof) of an optical drive, I’m not aware of any difference between them.

    Very Happy PS5 Owner

I have long been a Song PlayStation user. After years of playing previous gen games on my PS4, I finally caved and bought the PS5 and boy was I happy I upgraded. Loading times are faster, graphical quality and fidelity are superior, the selection of games available on the PS5 are astounding and even the ones with only technical upgrades are amazing to behold. I mostly buy digital games now, but I appreciate having the disc drive in order to play older games. Yes, the PS5 Pro coming out soon, but the PS5 alone is well worth the purchase to enjoy hours of video gaming fun and still get an incredibly smooth gaming experience.

    Exceeded my expectations

The PS5 was supremely hard to come by thanks to supply chain shortages and scalpers, but once I found one (I was NOT going to pay scalper prices), I didn’t regret buying it. The PS5 is a VERY nice upgrade from the PS4 Slim, and a quite a good upgrade from the PS4 Pro (thanks, Sony for not putting a 4K DVD player in the PS4 Pro). The performance is quite refreshing, on par and sometimes exceeding (in unscientific tests) the XBox Series X. Neither console is a slouch, to be sure, and I almost exclusively use consoles because I don’t do Windows as an OS. (It’s anathema on my PCs). Both consoles are great, but I’ve always been a fan of the Playstation, since it was the first console I bought new. It was a tossup between the Saturn and the PS1. I chose the PS1 for Tekken. 🙂 The rest is Sony fanboy history…I LOVE the controller, though I wish it had a better mechanism to replace the battery. The triggers are neat with their haptic feedback, especially in racing games that support that feature (or Cyberpunk 2077 when driving or riding motorcycles). The console is quiet, like the Series X. It also has a good aesthetic, though I always set my consoles horizontally (except my Series S, which I have hooked up beside my PC.)My only complaints are the size and the included stand (that serves double duty for horizontal/vertical). I know the PS5 is huge because of the cooling and whatnot, but the Series X is tiny compared to the PS5. I think Microsoft hit it out of the park in terms of squeezing that much power into that tiny a case. Sony doesn’t need to out-miniaturize Microsoft, but I would’ve liked a better horizontal stand. That’s a couple of minor complaints, to be sure.Sony fanboy or not, you will get GREAT use out of this console on your newly minted 4k TV. (Or your old cheap one like mine.) The new UI is simple and effective (and not laggy like the PS3), and the game selection is top notch. I just can’t see myself playing JRPGs on my XBox. :)Once you put internal storage in the system (much easier and cheaper than the XBox, which discourages changing the internals and Microsoft went with that proprietary giant USB style storage stick) the PS5 is ready for every game you can throw at it… including older ones. :)Get it. You won’t be disappointed. 🙂

A fantastic console worth re-arranging your gaming setup for!

When I first unboxed the PS5, I was honestly wowed by how big the system was… And since I was aware that the PS5 is an absolute UNIT of a system when I bought it, I pre-emptively made room for it in my setup before it arrived. The PS5 system DWARFS my Wii U in sheer size, and it has quite the commanding presence in my gaming setup, as seen in the picture I’ve provided.Regardless… Given that the PS5 seamlessly plays PS4 games, I can now dive into a bunch of PS4-era games I missed out on, like Dreams, LittleBigPlanet 3, and WipEout Omega Collection. In regards to the PS5’s own games, the only game I’ve had the chance to truly dive into was Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon, a multi-platform game that I wound up starting to hyper-fixate on… But that’s for another review.I’ve briefly played a few other PS5 games I bought alongside my system, and they look and play beautifully on my 4K 120hz Sony TV after configuring the PS5 to use 120hz and VRR.The DualSense controller the system comes with is highly responsive, and I find that the adaptive triggers feel trippy in a good way when they kick in, as games can change how the triggers feel depending on the context and what you’re doing. The PS5 comes with Astro’s Playroom installed, which is a short and sweet collect-a-thon platformer that lovingly references the history of the PlayStation brand all throughout, including little robots cosplaying as characters that made their mark on PlayStation history. I got a kick out of feeling the triggers resisting against my pushing in the controller demo that the game includes, to be honest. The home menu UI took me a bit to figure out at first, but it’s easy to navigate and looks fairly slick. However, one disappointment I’d like to air out is that the PS5 doesn’t have any themes, which the PS4 apparently had.In conclusion, the PS5’s an overall great system, and I can’t wait to dive into the games I got for it!

So I am very pleased with my newish ps5! The only problem I had is it didn’t come with the proper cable for connecting my controller. You need a USBC to USBC cable make sure you have one at home. Luckily most people have one laying around but it didn’t come with it.
