Solid Overall, Good For Gaming As Well Business

My primary use for this laptop has been for business applications, but it’s also a very capable gaming laptop as well. I really like the outer shell of this laptop, it has a black matte finish so it’s not shiny and it does not collect fingerprints, so even after handling it a lot it still looks clean in appearance. The power adapter that comes with this does high speed charging and works very well, but when I have this connected to my docking station and have the USB C port connected it only charges at regular speed. This powers up quick and the display is very crisp, colorful, and clear, movies as well as games look really good on it. The speakers are ok for most things, but when watching movies or playing music they just don’t have enough volume. It comes with a nice set of ports, 3 USB 3 slots, ethernet, headphone jack, 1 USB C, and 1 HDMI port. The keyboard is lighted and the buttons have a nice feel when typing on it.There is considerable fan noise when this is running but it comes with software so you can adjust them to your needs. The cooling system seems to be pretty good, the shell never really gets that hot even while gaming or video rendering.I wouldn’t say that this is lightweight as there is some weight to it, but it’s not uncomfortably heavy when carrying it in a backpack or laptop sleeve. The battery power is just ok, if I do some video rendering and light gaming it usually gets low on power and needs to be plugged in about three quarters into the day.Overall I’m really happy with the performance of this laptop and can recommend it, it has performed well with everything I have used it for, and works well for gaming as well as media.

Solid laptop for the price, and upgradable.

I work in IT for a living, so I will write my review based on both consumer and expert analysis. From the more expert side, this is an overall solid budget laptop. The battery life is abysmal, admittedly, but with more powerful hardware I wasn’t expecting a half day or anything. But even playing more lightweight games kills the battery in under 2 hours. While you’re probably not going to be doing much if any gaming while not connected to AC, it’s still good information to have. A removable battery would have been nice for a laptop of this type. From the upgradability side, I’m happy to report that this can have both memory and storage upgraded. Too many manufacturers are soldering these components in now, so it was nice to see i can upgrade (and with a default 8GB of memory, you’ll want to do so).The screen is crisp and the refresh rate of 144hz is very nice for a laptop. It makes the gaming experience that much better, especially in fast paced games and first person shooters. The ports, keyboard, and touchpad are all adequate. Nothing negative, nothing that stands out. But one thing that does annoy me is the barrel charging adapter. Instead of going with USB-C for charging, they went with a proprietary barrel connector. I’ve had bad experiences with this styling outside of Dell, especially when the port gets bumped or moved too much. Hopefully the board that houses the barrel isn’t soldered directly to the main board, as that is an expensive issue should it failRegarding the weight, it’s a gaming laptop. It’s heavy and bulky, but you expect this from a gaming laptop. The matte finish isn’t anything show stopping, but if you care about function over form then you’ll not care in the slightest about the aesthetics. I know I don’t. The graphics card performs quite well, even with some games at ultra. While Skyrim is an older game, I was able to max out the settings and still have a great frame rate.If I find any games in particular seem to cause this laptop unusual issues, I’ll update the review. But, as it stands, this is a great budget laptop with upgradability. The only major qualms, in summary, are the barrel style AC adapter and the battery life. It also does tend to run a bit hotter when being pushed hard, which tells me the cooling may be slightly inadequate. I may opt to run some fans underneath to keep it a bit cooler when going more extreme gaming.

    A good entry-level gaming laptop

This is a nice entry-level gaming laptop, although I am using it mostly for other purposes. It has 3 USB-A ports and 1 USB-C port, but I would have preferred more USB-C ports and fewer of the USB-A. On the ANV15-41 model the USB-C port is labeled “USB Type C port with DC-in”. I assumed this meant it could also be charged through the USB-C port, but when I tried charging it that way it failed. Upon reading the User Manual concerning the USB ports I found this “DC-in: requires power adapter or power source providing 65 W at 20 V.” I will try again if I get a suitable charger. The battery life is good, at least for non-gaming applications. There is a setting in NitroSense to limit battery charging to 80% of capacity, this results in less stress on the battery for longer battery life. The laptop fans are quiet, except during gaming. I have been using this for a couple of months now, and it seems to be a solid performer for everything I have used it for.I would recommend going to the Acer website and downloading both the User Manual and the Lifecycle Extension Guide for the ANV15-41. The Lifecycle Extension Guide gives detailed explanations, with pictures, of how to replace various components such as the battery pack, DIMMs, WLAN module, and USB board, among others.I am very happy with this laptop and it is a good value for those on a budget.

    Great First Laptop

I have been using this laptop for a while now so I can give an honest review. I will probably end up donating it to someone with children. Whilst I think it is a nice laptop, I think it would be better as a child’s first laptop or for schoolwork. They could have added a lot more to this laptop to make it great. They used a good graphics card, a GeForce RTX 4050 which is very up to date. They graphics on the desktop and the games I tried where really good and could run them on max settings. The AMD Hexa-Core processor is also very nice, quick and up to date but is only a 3.3 GHz Where it falls for me is the minimum RAM at only 8GB. Yes, is it would be easy to upgrade it, but no one wants the hassle or lots of external upgrades. They could have just done this from the start. The SSD again is only 512 GB. It would have been just as easy to put in a 1TB or more. It has all the usual USB ports, a type c and HDMI. The keyboards nice to type on, the speakers are loud and clear, and the display is a 144 hz refresh rate and very detailed and clear. For the price I do think this is a pretty decent, solid, well made and durable laptop. It would be an awesome first laptop for a child. I would have rather paid a bit extra to get the more upgraded version which would then definitely make this a 5-star laptop. I am a big fan of AMD and Geforce. Overall, I would recommend but be prepared to upgrade it as soon as you get it.

Compared to alternatives, it is just *fine*

This laptop has the specs to impress and at full bore, it plays games really well (even with ray tracing), but where it suffers is just from the basic fit and finish. The keyboard is mushy, has very low key travel, and for some reason, mine is uneven and slightly sunken-in in the middle (there is a visible warp). Additionally, this laptop is LOUD. Like, I didn’t even know they got this loud. The issue lies in that the vent on the rear of the laptop exhausts up in front of the display instead of out and behind it. This is not ideal for fan noise as it is reflected off the screen and appears louder than it actually is. There are laptops (HP Victus 15) that have literally the same exact specs at the same price and do not have these problems. Additionally, I had a lot of trouble getting this laptop up and running. The very first thing I did was install 32gb of RAM and an additional 2TB ssd (I commend the manufacturer for including these upgrade slots). I finally got everything set up and downloaded a few games to test when I had to restart because of a windows update (normal) and then I got stuck in an automatic repair boot loop (not normal) that made my unit unusable and my only option was to do a clean install of windows from a usb to get it working again. This was a huge technical undertaking for a brand new laptop and I doubt many people who just want an out-of-the-box gaming experience will want to do this or even know how. Frustrating. (side note, if this happens to you, make sure you download the nvidia drivers as well as the amd adrenaline software because the cpu is in charge of graphics when non gaming and you’ll need an amd graphics driver in addition to the discrete GPU driver to run the screen at 144Hz).Okay, with all that context out of the way, here are the things I did like about this laptop:The Nitrosense software is pretty good for fan control and has options that make a noticeable impact on your experience (good and bad). When you have the laptop in performance mode, you can play Cyberpunk 2077 ,with raytracing on, at around 110 fps on the high end and 90 on the low – which is really good. The fans are deafening in this mode so you’ll need headphones or to really crank the speakers. Speaking of the speakers, I like them. For the price point, they get very loud and have a sufficient amount of detail without getting muddy.Going back to the performance modes, I usually keep my unit on eco (on battery) or quiet (on AC power) because otherwise the fans kind of ruin the experience for me. In quiet mode, I am still getting around 70-80fps in Cyberpunk 2077 with the same settings, so totally playable and not deafening. I wouldn’t try to game on battery if you can help it as the speed at which it will drain is not good for the lifetime of the battery.I like that I can open the lid with one hand. Comparing to the HP Victus 15, which I have to pry open with two.The battery also compares favorably to the HP Victus 15. I have not done any in depth stress tests, but the “projected time” I can remain on battery is significantly higher (several hours more) than on the Victus. In addition to all of this, I really enjoy the port options on this laptop. You can easily use a second monitor with the usb-c port and still have 3 more usb-a ports to use for peripherals. All in all, if you can get this on sale, I would say it is worth it, but I would much rather have an HP Victus 15 with the same specs than this laptop. The Victus just feels better in the hand and will perform just as well while being quieter.Edit:I have added one star to my review after a few more weeks of using this as my only laptop. I may have been too hard on this product initially, for a few reasons. The battery lasts significantly longer than the HP Victus and does so with more powerful components. This has enabled me to leave the house without the charger because I am not so worried about this laptop dying on me halfway through doing something. Additionally, the speakers are quite good for the price point. I took out my Victus and listened to it with the Nitro side by side and the Nitro has substantially better sound. If you can afford the RAM upgrade, this laptop is a good deal.

    Acer Does it Again

A nice economic level gaming computer. Packed full of some great features and specs it will be better than your average laptop for gaming, but still has some limitations. Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoy the laptop, was excited to be able to get it, and am happy with it for my needs.I don’t do a whole lot of gaming, but can appreciate great graphics and increased speed/processing capabilities.I also enjoy and feel I need a larger screen in a laptop. Even if it’s not for gaming purposes, and just for getting some work down, editing photos, working with PowerPoint, etc., a larger screen like this works well for me and this one is bright and displays well. There are plenty of ports as well. A total of 3 standard USB ports, including at least one on each side, a type C USB port, and Ethernet port, and An HDMI port.My small gripes are probably fairly common ones. The battery life isn’t the best if you are actually gonna heavily game and while there are good options for ports, I really don’t understand why major brands like Acer haven’t gotten on board with making their power supply a type C plug. If they did this, they could offer two type C ports and add more flexibility to the laptop.Other than that, I’m very happy overall with the laptop. While it’s been a while, I’ve had Acer computers before and have always found them to be a good value and pack in great features for their price points, and this one is in line with that.

A great budget laptop with a few caveats

I’ve been a fan of the nitro series ever since I bought its 2060 variant on sale- they’re fairly budget, but fairly solid little gaming machines you can often pick up on sale. The 4050 variant I picked up is no different- although I’d suggest you get the 4060 version unless the price is just beyond your reach. I will say, the 8gb this ships with is a bit underpowered, it is fairly easy to changeout however. If you do not have a standard PC tech kit, you can use a basic small Phillips and oddly some old credit cards. Take out the screws, use the credit cards to pop the two pieces apart and you can easily access the memory and SSD and upgrade this into a much more capable machine. The base machine is still capable of e-sports titles, but jumping it to 16 or 32gb of ram will get you MUCH better results for not too much money. Adding a cooling stand will also net you a bit more performance at the expense of noise. Just shop smart and happy gaming!

    Well appointed laptop

This is a very nice laptop for the price. I’m still working at getting my desired software installed, but so far there have been no issues. The screen is excellent. The speakers are surprisingly good. I’m not a huge fan of laptop keyboards in general, but the one on this feels pretty good. It doesn’t have RGB. White backlight only. I appreciate that it includes a number pad. The touchpad is ok though not great. I usually use a mouse though. There are a good selection of ports including a Thunderbolt type C if you needed more for some reason. It has integrated graphics on the CPU as well as the separate 4050 which allows for longer battery times. I’ve had no issues with the latter. The fans are relatively quiet when doing basic productivity work. They do kick up when gaming and the 4050 takes over. Overall it feels well built. It’s not as rock solid as one with metal case, but then it’s nowhere near as expensive. There was minimal bloatware. The one slight downside is it only comes with 8 gigs of ram. Easy and cheap enough to add another stick, but it would have been worth an extra $20 to have it with 16gigs to begin with. I’ll likely upgrade that and may add a second m.2 SSD since there is space for one though the 512GB drive it comes with is likely going to be fine for my use. If you were going to use this as a desktop replacement you’d definitely want to do both. About the looks I’ll just say it’s understated and would look perfectly professional in an office. Make no mistake though, it’s a pretty competent gaming computer.

    Mind blowing for a laptop

The laptop has very adequate processing speed and graphics are phenomenal. Battery life is ok-ish but it does burn pretty quick due to the fans. Perfect for gaming if you don’t want to build a tower. Super quick setup and solid performance for everything from movies, new games, and old games.
