Used – Like New
I bought mine “like new” for $419. Runs really well just like a brand new one. And mine even came with a glass screen protector. Forewarning, if you’re concerned about battery life, you’ll be getting 45 mins to 2 hours of game play (40wh battery). If you want a longer play time, get the Ally X (80wh battery).

ROG Ally is an odd hybrid
First off, the one I got had a 100-250 volt power supply, and a non-removable two pin European style plug. It said Brazil, had I looked that up I would have seen that Brazil used type N plugs with both 127 volt and 220 volt, in different areas. For $10 I bought a gadget from Walmart that was nothing but a plug converter, US Australian, european UK in to the same out, and only the hot wires, the ground pin was dealt with by having a hole in the female side that was plastic lined, connected to nothing, and on the male side there was a playing pin for UK and nothing for anything else. That got me running.First off this is an EX model. It has the right number of cores and windows identifies the name of the processor correctly.I ran Netflix and Hulu, they ran fine.I really don’t care that much about edge performance. 30fps is just fine, but I do want resolution. So far, the two games I have run have worked beautifully…except…Sometimes the right stick works as a mouse… sometimes it does what I expect the stick to do in a game, and I’m not sure when the shift happens.[Edit: figured it out. I thought it would shift by app but I can’t get that to work. There is a front panel button that brings up a menu that allows you to switch.]So, if you get one of these, it would be helpful if you had some arrangement to connect two european style pins (4mm in diameter, about, and maybe 18mm center to center) to an outlet of your choice. Conversely, if you had a 75-100 watt power supply or [don’t do this it is a joke maybe], if you want to live dangerously, an old appliance cord and electrical tape) you can get up and running. You don’t need a voltage converter, just a connection. [I guess this is because Brazil uses a range of voltages.]The ROG screen works like a windows touch screen. The fingerprint reader in the power button is brilliant, you click it and it knows you are you, immediately. It suffers the usual disease of windows hides information from you, but that is a windows issue.I’ve used it for a couple hours, just found drips and trying to get FFXIV running [got it], and the fan never came on. I have gigabit internet and my download ran up to 100mb/sec in parts, 30 mb/sec in others. That is a a lot of data to handle. With 16mb of memory and 16 cores, it is likely that the scheduler will never steal your processor…all that stuff means your experience will be smoother….and that is what I’m seeing.[I found that if I put it in economy the frame rate dropped to 17 or so and games looked jerky when just looking around, but no heat was noticeable. If I turned it to turbo it managed frame rates from 50 to a reported 100. The device got slightly warm. The power brick gets much warmer when the battery is charging.]So the only downsides are euro plug and that it does not quite know what it wants to be.The star was for not making it clear what plug it had. The indication was that it was an international model from a Brazilian Portugese area, I believe they use US plugs. The round pins were a shock. [Only because I stayed in hotels in Brazil and didn’t notice the plug issues, and I went there almost 30 years ago. They do not, in fact, use US plugs, nor do they have a Standard country-wide voltage, but the same plugs are used for all voltages. Astounding.]

Awesome handheld been using it almost every day!
Paid extra so i could finance it. The price is high but the handheld is self is awesome and worth the money if you need a portable device. Lots of power and boots fast. Wish it had a little more power but does the job for on the go.

Great Portable PC/Handheld
It’s perfect if you don’t mind tinkering around a bit; otherwise, if you’re the guy who just wants an out-of-the box, pick- up & play experience, maybe something like the Steam Deck would be better for you (especially if your a PC- gamer who uses Steam anyway.) For my money, I think the ROG ALLY is the best outta the bunch rn, and with their new revised X edition or whatever it’s called, it seems they got rid of one the major design flaws of putting the SD card slot so close to the exhaust, not to mention a completely rearranged Motherboard. The only thing I tend to complain about from time to time, is that I just wished they chose Windows 10 rather then Windows 11; I don’t like Windows 11 as it is, and it’s even clunkier on a Handheld. All in all, it’s my favorite system right now.

Looks great , feels good BUT..
The system looks great, has a good amount of oomph to play games BUT the battery life on it when using that power drops FAST..full charge to dead playing Disney speedstorm in 50 mins….each race was killing about 7 percent battery. You can turn down the performance or stay plugged in but I don’t know how good that is for the battery and at $900 CDN you can get a better way to play games longer on a steam deck. Sending mine back.

not good enough for play game
The description is deceptive. The system has only crashed a small handful of times, and the battery does not last at all an hour. Overheat, burn my tf card. It’s not portable if you have to charge it after an hour.To be honest, it’s not worth for money. It should only focus on “gaming” not “PC”, it only makes this one not good enough to be either one. They have a new one called “X” I may try that one.

After a couple of month’s usage, I proclaim buyer’s remorse.
* First of all, good luck finding it on MSRP, like XG Mobiles and a few other Asus products, it’s almost always out of stock and whenever you find it, it’s way over MSRP.* If you think like me and buy it thinking you’d hook it up to a monitor to use it time to time using a third-party dock; good luck. It is far too weak to game on a proper display. 16GB RAM is a joke, even compared to a laptop, since windows itself hogs roughly 6 gigs, APU hogs another 3 to 5 and you are left with 4-5 gigs of usable RAM at max, which results in crappy performance. Even if you resort to the incredibly dangerous and shady approach of getting new RAM chips soldered, at best you are getting 15% performance boost with potential to perma damage your ally.* Docking this thing turns it into a work laptop at best, thanks to Asus’ stubbornness on XG Mobile and proprietary connection, the USB-C connection on this thing is subpar at best. It’s not thunderbolt because Asus wants you to spend yet another 800 to 2000 dollars to buy their crappy ass mobile eGPUs instead of the sensible way of using your own eGPU setups. Not to mention that XG Mobiles are stupid overpriced and again, almost always out of stock or waaaay above MSRP (to be fair even the MSRP on those is ridiculous.)* As soon as you get this thing, if you get this thing, mod it for 2280 NVME. 2230 NVMEs are way too overpriced on the same storage sizes. Do not even dream about gaming on sd cards, there is a long way to go for those to become competent enough to play any newer, huge sized games; plus Ally roasts SD Cards for breakfast.* FFS Asus! For the love of god, please license third parties to use the XG Mobile connectors. Even as a USB hub socket it would be more sensible than using it for something that is almost always out of stock.

Not too shabby.
It’s fast, light, has a great screen. It’s not very comfortable to play without a handgrip, but the controls are responsive and have a good feel to them. It’s basically a Windows 11 PC, so expect all the annoyances those entail with the additional gripes of not having a dedicated mouse and keyboard. Only connects to online via WiFi. Sim card slot gets REALLY HOT. SSD kinda small. Performance is great, but it CHEWS through the battery like a school of piranha chews through a party of swimming co-eds.

Works great… until it didn’t
I owned it for almost a month it worked great. ran beamng drive, modded mech warrior 5,and gta 5 all good if you tuned the settings alittle. Problems came when I was using it in silent mode using a browser then went to a game and switched it to turbo, it made a loud whining noise and the system vibrated like something wasn’t running right. For the past week it didn’t move from my desk cause I was using it as a desktop and no I didn’t drop it before this. Having to deal with the return process now 🙁

Description is deceptive.Item was an international model that did not state such. Came with a cord unable to use in US.Item box was damaged.Item was not brand new, rog Ally comes with a 2 year warranty in US. I went to register it and lost 11 months of the warranty since it seems to have been registered in August of 2023

An honest review one month in
So ever since I picked up a Switch on launch 6 or 7 years ago, I’ve entirely committed to handheld gaming and haven’t looked back. It’s just a great experience and fits my busy lifestyle better. However, the rapidly aging hardware, which was already below industry standard to begin with, got me craving a more modern handheld experience. I’d seen lots of negative feedback on the Steam deck, and have heard positive things about ROG, so the Ally seemed like the right move for me.So I’ll start off with the pros. First off, it’s freeing to be able to play games from any catalog (well, except the Nintendo store!) completely hand-held. Second, very positive experiences with performance thus far. I started with Star Wars Jedi Survivor, because I knew it was high demand on the system’s performance. It plays beautifully, with graphics that definitely make the Switch feel like a kid’s toy. Apart from the occasional frame rate drop, which the Switch also experiences on more demanding games like TOTK, the game played smoothly and looked gorgeous. The battery life, while nothing to brag about, was reasonable for such a huge game. Another pro for the Ally is the screen, which is a huge upgrade from the Switch. I’ve included a photo of the Ally next to the Switch for size comparison. It’s a bit heavier, but I’m not playing for 4 hours at a time so it’s not really an ergonomic issue. But alas, the cons. Pretty much all of my complaints about this system have to do with the fact that it’s built on Windows 11. I’m sorry PC gamers, but Windows is just a TERRIBLE operating system. The Switch had an incredibly smooth sleep/wake functionality, which made it seamless to jump back into playing. The Windows sleep feature, on the other hand, is fairly clunky, and even though I’ve tried to adjust the settings to not ask for a pin every time I set it down, it still asks for one and makes me login with an on screen pin pad, which is a bit annoying. What’s more, when I put it to sleep, it will eventually switch from sleep to hibernate, at which point I effectively have to power the system back on which takes about a minute. This doesn’t sound like much, but when you’re used to a handheld console that can be picked up and set down with ease, it’s very annoying. Another con is that the UI being structured around Windows 11 is just bad without a mouse or keyboard. But the biggest complaint I have I have, which is a Windows issue in general, is AUTOMATIC UPDATES WITHOUT PERMISSION. This has already happened multiple times in just a month. I put the console to sleep and when I come back 10 minutes later it doesn’t wake up, and instead jumps right into OS updates without asking. The PC restarts and takes a while to install updates, and whatever you had open before is completely shut down, without asking for a chance to save or anything. Lost 45 minutes of progress on a game today due to the automatic update issue, which is what prompted me to write this review. Ultimately the handheld configuration is just not totally compatible with Windows OS.So all that said, am I happy with the purchase? I will say yes, but only because I got it on Black Friday for $400. I don’t think I would be happy with it at full price quite honestly.

DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH, but IMHO an amazing device
There is a lot of hate out there for this device. Ultimately windows 11 is NOT well optimized for touch screens or handhelds, least of all the “smaller” screens you’ll find on almost all handhelds on the market. BUT, don’t necessarily let that put you off. I have absolutely fallen in love with my Ally and almost replaced my laptop with it at this point. If you try to look at this thing as more of a miniature computer and less of a steam deck, it opens up a lot of possibilities. Trying to do productivity stuff? Connect a keyboard and mouse either through an OTG adapter or Bluetooth and you have a mini productivity beast. Screen too small? Add a portable monitor or even desktop monitor and you have a moderately powerful desktop computer. Obviously such a setup isn’t very portable, but combine that with a portable keyboard and trackpad and suddenly you have both portability and a nice home setup in one single device, all whilst simultaneously being able to use it as a handheld and having one of the best emulators out there. The raw performance isn’t as good as the Ally X (obviously), but better than the steam deck at a very similar price. If you’re deciding between the two then you really need to ask yourself what is more important to you; the better raw performance and customization of the All, or the easier and simpler to use UI of the steam deck. Yes, the battery life of this thing isn’t great, but by adding a battery pack capable of providing high enough current, you can essentially extend the battery life as long as you want to.So, will you be disappointed buying one of these? All I can say is do your research. I love mine and now don’t think I’ll ever own another laptop thanks to it, but I’ve also heard plenty of people that are disappointed with theirs because they didn’t know what they were getting into. From me though this thing gets a solid 5 stars for being such an all around adaptable beast.

Contras:• No puedes usar MicroSSD.

Excellent gaming device
It’s powerful, stylish, runs Windows 11 out of the box. It offers the best compatibility for a PC gamer but of course… Windows 11 is a bit less user-friendly that a Steam Deck. It lacks the haptic trackpads too but otherwise, it is superior in every aspect to a Valve’s handheld. At this point, the software has gained enough maturity to be usable. There are plenty of accessories to choose from. I am glad I picked my unit on rebate.A must have for a serious PC gamer on the road.

Amazing – if you’re willing to put in the work
Console is amazing but…..I can’t tell you “once you do this – TADA! Everything works great, no turning back!”You have to understand that this is a PC. It is CONSTANTLY going to be a process of tweaking. Yes you can get set up and get games running easily, but going forward expect to be pulling up youtube videos to tweak certain things as you go along from week to week. You may need to look up things like “what are the best graphic settings for this game?” on a constant basis. Which is fine – if you’re old-school/tech savy/geeky. If any of those descriptions describes you, you’re going to love the Ally.If you simply want “I want to just download my games and play”: Get a console from the big 3If you want portability with LESS effort than the Ally: Get a Steam DeckIf you want higher performance AND the ability to play games from not only Steam, but Windows and 3rd party developers, and you don’t mind putting in the work to get the best experience: get the Asus ROG Ally.

Best buy right now the price for the asus rog ally z1 extreme is on sale for $600 and original price is $700… I bought mine at best buy because cheaper and I just pick it up in store.. overall happy with the asus rog ally, I play cyberpunk, horizon zero dawn, valheim, outsiders, fortnite and a lot more games.. but of course most of them can just run in performance and with that you can play for at least 2 hours but others you do have to play in turbo mode so that only good for almost an hour before having to charge it again.. I love it, I use it everyday, of course it runs some games in medium setting and others in low settings but overall it runs it all pretty smooth, without any hiccups and I’ve seen someone play MW3 on it and ill be testing that out once I get the game in PC. So will update

Amazing!
I bought this from Best Buy and wanted to share my review here. I have a steam deck too and I personally like the ASUS Rog Ally more. The ASUS Rog Ally is a mini handheld gaming computer. I just like that I don’t need to bring my gaming laptop with me anymore because I can just use the handheld now. Despite hearing that the buttons were bad, I’ve had no issues with the buttons yet. None of the buttons were stuck or hard to push when I used it. I heard that there is no sleep mode and the system goes into the lock screen when the power button is pressed or the black screen shows when the system is idle. I turned the settings on the lowest since I heard the battery does not last long. So far, the battery has lasted for a long time but I guess that is because I was just playing Left 4 Dead 2 for starters. I heard games like Resident Evil 4 Remake will drain the battery fast. I like the lights on the analog sticks when the system is turned off. If you want something cheaper, then the steam deck would be the best. I got the Steam Deck 512GB. One more thing too since I heard some people saying the system is not working when they open it. You are supposed to plug it in first and let it charge! As far as I know, every system is like that! Haha! The gameplay looks good and runs smoothy but it will make the system hot. Whatever you do, do not buy from scalpers. Retail price is 699.

If you can get this at msrp do it!
This thing is a monster for its form factor it was playing callofduty in 1080p getting about 70fps on medium settings while live streaming in discord this thing can pretty much do it all, going to try star citizen soon.

This is about as powerful as my $400 desktop !! Hold them in your hands !!
Try holding your desktop and monitor on your two hands and play games !! Just amazes the level of ignorance how, expectations and are …When I can’t afford it , I have to say why I can’t have it

Next best handheld!
Glad I sold my Steam Deck, this is better in many ways.Biggest thing you can tell right away is screen and sound quality, and then of course the performance. Also, the touchscreen works so good.

????not a $400 dollar computer
First buy from Best buy until more retailers stock it only $699…. second no 400 dollar computer can play games like this most reviews state it is more like around $1000 dollar laptop….last I have game pass the more places I can play my games more value I feel the subscription is….it was hard to drop $700 for it but that being said I am really enjoying it great handheld with so much potential…..I have not played a lot of games on it yet Yakuza 0 runs at 1080 around 60-90 fps….Ori and blind forest faster than screen can go at 130-150 fps…so far very pleased need to test more games though…I do not know of any $400 dollar computer that can do that if you do let me know…mic drop…
