    Great Card

It’s great indeed. I bought it when it cost usd 399. The only issue is that the card is very hot, and in a hot country that is a problem (95 Cº when is in full load fans at 100% in 30 Cº enviroment)

    Great Products, Great Price

I’ve been a fan of Radeon products since the ATI 9800Pro. They’ve always given me excellent performance at the price point I need. When I was introduced to Sapphire products in 2006, I new I had a new board maker to use. Prices are almost always lower than other board designers, and the quality is impeccable. The R9 290 is no exception. This GPU gives Titan crushing power at a fraction of the cost. I can run ANY game at extremely detailed settings at 1080p or 1440p with acceptable to excellent framerates. Even though I only have the reference design without the advantage of Sapphire’s cooling technology, I can overclock and push the card to its limits. It is incredibly stable, driver support is excellent, and I can enjoy my games like never before! The added bonus of AMD’s Mantle Technology has made a big difference in Battlefield 4, where every frame counts. Thanks Sapphire and AMD!

    Sapphire quality is the best

It’s just a reference card but I trust sapphire with my purchases. I only game at 1080p but i found this card for a steal of a deal and now I can safely max any game I throw at it (Bar a few unoptimized ones like Far Cry 4) and it handles modded skyrim like a boss. It’s a bit loud but it’s a reference- If you are worried about the noise and heat I recommend an aftermarket cooler. However, I bought it KNOWING this so I wont deduct anything from my score. AMDs new drivers also really make this card shine, I am in love with it.

It is hell,Hot as hell ,and fast as fire!!

Am not an AMD fanboy by any means, but I lost 3 laptops and one card due to faulty nVidia cards ( 8800 GTX 512 , HP DV6 Special edition 8400 GS, Toshiba satellite 205 Sli1 GT 8600 SLi , and finally my HP DV3 ), My 4 years old Radeon HD 5850 is still going strong, and this card really atracted for its Price/Performance ratio ,so I decided to go with it .When I decided to buy this card it was fluctuating hard on the price side of the story ,so as an experienced and patient buyer I decided to put it in my shopping cart and wait, check my card every so and a while ,it was selling for roughly 550$ (well above my budget),after 3 days I woke up early in the morning and it was selling for 399 $ ,so it was a no brainer buy.Now for the good side of the story, this card is really fast ,I was able to achive 100 FPS + in most games ,execuse me for not writing a full review regarding its power cause you can find those review any any tech site ( TomsHardware ,3d Guru ,Anandtech etc…),am only reviewing the consumer experience, and it is fast ,well never let you down in 1920×1080 maxed out in any game ,and that is waht matters.I never experienced a slow-down issue due to heat capping or throttling ,and this is cause I already know the overheating issue of this card ,so to be clear, this card is not meant for small cases with limited ventilation,I have Cooler Master 690 III case ,and am using a total of 2 140mm Fans on the top, one 120mm fan at the bottom, one 200 mm fan on the front ,beside that I use a closed loop liquid cooling for my CPU with its own 120 mm fan ( Cooler Master Siedon 120v) .My bottom case fan is directed to be intake,so it blows cold air right into the card Blower. The dark side is that even with all these precautions ,the card still hit 94 degree celesius, I used MSI afterburner to manually throttle the card to maximum 80 degrees, and I didn’t feel any noticeable change in frame rates ( with exception of few cases ).The other downside ,is that AMD’s Never settle reloaded bundle is just a scam ,when you hear all these applauses for NSR game bundle and see all the advertisement you will think that it is a guranteed deal if you buy on of the qualified cards, this is just a lie ,unless the dealer you buy from offers you a copoun for the bundle you are not going to get it ,and simple Aamzon was’nt bundling copouns with the high end cards ( 290 and 290x) ,and I didn’t know that untill I bought the card, they were offering the bundle only to second tier cards ( R9 280x and below ),so don’t be fooled by all the hoax on the internet,it is not guranteed that you are going to get the bundle!!!For anyone who doesn’t care for the heat (some times the noise associated with it) and not interested in the bundle games ,this card is second to none.

Very good card compared to the 290x

This card will handle everything at 1080p with all the settings turned up to the highest. I recently purchased a 21:9 monitor at 2560x 1080p and noticed very little, if any difference, when it came to performance. However you will probably get better frame rates turning AA down a setting or 2. During games the card does get sort of loud, but it’s not as bad as everyone thinks. If you want to hear loud, turn the card up to 100%. I did that in cgminer, and I don’t think I will ever complain about in game noise again. During games the card gets to 40 or 50% and doesn’t feel too hot. This card also gives about 850 kh+ if you have the settings right. I practically stole this card at 340 after a 30$ gift card, and I’d highly recommend buying this if you can get it for 400 or less. The main difference between this and the 290x is mostly clock speed, but most people will never notice the difference because it performs so well anyway.

Powerful video card, but don’t forget to upgrade the BIOS!

Powerful cards but is very hot and noisy when the fan is running at full throttle. It requires a 6-pin & 8-pin power connections. It comes with power cable adapters in case your computer’s power supply doesn’t have any available.I had ordered 2, but one of them always had a Code 43 error by my operating system (Windows 7). I figured out that I had to upgrade the BIOS. The BIOS upgrade also included a powerpoint presentation which made the process simple. Here’s the link in case you need it also.[…]

    DO NOT BUY!!!!

Do not buy this card if you do not have proper air flow through-out your case, this card gets really hot, to the point where I had to keep the fan on 100% all the time, I did have a defective on though where it kept shutting down and I only just got it.

    Why I love the R9 290

Even tho I’m using a reference design on a PCIe 2.0 due to the lack of a fx motherboard that supports it, the graphics card performance is still awesome and i can play the most recent games to it’s full potential. I guess I’m only not giving it a 5 star rating due to the fact that the reference design temperature is quite high when compared to the non reference coolers. But in overall it’s a awesome card.

Almost As Powerful As The R9-290X Just $100 Cheaper

I actually purchased two of these video cards about 2 years ago and I have to say that power for the money has definitely been worth, you save yourself about $100 per card and lose only about 5% of performance but it is a small difference that most will never be able to tell. Sure I was a bit disappointed that when they came out the cards did not qualify for the ‘Never Settle’ program but I do not believe I would have even ended up playing the games in the long term. As everyone before has said, these cards do get loud and they do get hot enough that in the winter you do not need to turn on the heater, these will warm up the whole house! However after 17 months, both might have suffered some kind of overheating because they stopped working, so I sent them to Sapphire and they kindly honored their warranty and was actually sent 2 Tri-X OC. Performance wise it was not much but the cooling fans (1 on the reference vs 3 on the Tri-X OC) definitely make a big difference in keeping temperatures down. These cards run everything seamlessly, I run 2 4K monitors that I use for AutoCAD / Revit / Photoshop and rendering software so complaints on the output.

$849 for a $399 MSRP video card? are we crazy?

Considering that the MSRP is $399… wouldn’t even consider to pay more than double that price for it. For that price you can get 2 of them…

    King of Dollar/Performance!

This reference design R9 290 out of box isn’t that great of a performer. However, when I purchased this card around time of release I knew about the throttling issues caused by the heat the mammoth die produced and grabbed a water block to remedy this. With sub 50 degree Celsius temperatures, reference voltage control, and a custom bios this R9 290 from Sapphire is a BEAST!At the time of release, Scrypt crypto currency mining was at it’s peak and thus exacerbated the price of this(and all other AMD’s) card on release pushing the limit of what most people would pay to $400 and beyond! It’s hard to find a reference designed card, but today’s custom cooler models run alot cooler and don’t suffer from the reference design clock throttle so much and can be had for an amazingly low price of around $260, which makes this card highly recommended.score 10/10 – my card is still kicking and its performance is still very relevant even beside the new Nvidia GTX980My experience with Sapphire customer service and RMA process, in the past has been excellent. Althon Micro has a great turnaround time and understand that cards can fail in more than one way besides obvious failures like artifacting or no display whatsoever Thus I recommend Sapphire brand for a non hassle replacement.

Great for cryptocurrency mining, but MSRP is $399 – don’t pay more.

These are good cards, but MSRP is $399, so don’t buy at those prices, you can find them elsewhere at MSRP prices or better.Anyway, I purchased these cards for cryptocurrency mining, I am very happy with the results which is about 800 kh/s.I followed directions I found online for mining settings, and made some additional tweaks in terms of AMD Catalyst control (disabled all “Overclocking” performance settings, disabled Crossfire) and these are running great without ANY overclocking! The nice thing about that is that your warranty won’t be voided. These cards are rock-solid and are very easy to setup and get going.I’m not a gamer, but I am sure they’d be fine for that seeing as how they can be run at 100% load for over 24 hours with zero problems.

    Perfect for Watercooled Systems

so i got my hands on this card half a year ago. i purchased a used one, because i wanted to put a watercooler on top, and still didnt want to spend hundreds of euros. i ended up with 320 for GPU plus brandnew EK waterblock. this is the best price/power ratio ever, i think :Dcard runs fine, and is now silent. (stock cooler is even worse than the AMD boxed CPU cooler)

I have always used AMD products and my entire computer is AMD hardware proccesor, gpu, and motherboard and ssd.

I have never have any major problems with my AMD products unless someother component lead to the failure and i try to convince everyonr to buy AMD. I do wish that my graphics card had a little ore power because my friends have nividia and they tend to out perform me at most games.

    Always Reliable

I would always recommend a Sapphire or AMD product because I have never had a single problem with them. Every NVIDIA card I’ve gotten has died or developed problems in the first six months, my X1950 Pro still works!Regardless, I’ll never complain about this card.

Watercoolers perspective r9 290 crossfire review

I have 2 of these running in crossfire with a custom water loop. Couldn’t be happier. Everything runs on ultra 60fps. Would not reccomend if you’re going to use the reference cooler. The other coolers oike the tri-x are much better.

    This product is fantastic!

The R9 290 is by far the best gpu that I have used for the price. It does everything that I need and more! Gaming on “next-gen” games like CoD:AW work flawlessly, higher than an average of 60 FPS.

Great card, alot less heat produced than my prior card. Had an issue with fps glitching and frame skipping but the most recent driver update fixed that. Total Nirvana now.
