I think Apple Retina displays have “ruined” my expectations and have now become the standard that judge displays by. I have a 2017 iMac 5K and a 2022 M1 MacBook Pro. I bought this monitor to use as a display mostly for the MacBook…primarily for video editing.CONS: Wow was I disappointed at the overall image quality. I didn’t think it would be as much of a difference as there is. Brightness is really lacking (even though reviews I read/watched indicated it was bearable). The image wasn’t very crisp either. I figured the resolution would suffice, but likely the 60Hz refresh rate wasn’t enough.PROS: I LOVE the amount of screen real estate. it’s the main reason you buy a wide/ultra-wide monitor. Setup was easy – mounted on my own desk arm (VESA 100 form factor). The monitor is very light for the size. it came with all the cables you’d need for its ports.Summary: if I had not been exposed to using Apple’s crazy good quality panels, I’d probably have kept this monitor since my point of reference would be different. Now I guess I have to look at the LG 40WP95C-W 40 5K monitor with a higher refresh rate (that thing is about 4 times the price though…yikes). Might have to wait for business to become more lucrative to justify that purchase.

Great monitor for many

I use this monitor for work, and it is massive! I have it next to my Dell 27″ and it looks so much better. The screen is bright and build quality is great. My favorite feature is the USB Power Transfer. I have everything connected to my monitor and then one USB-C (provided) to my laptop. It even charges my laptop. I barely have any cables now! It is a great set up! I also purchased it because it was an IPS screen which seems high quality and offers PBP which I have yet to use.Potential negatives:1-If you want a significant curve to the screen, this curve is minimal. I sorta regret not getting a more noticeable curve.2-It has adjustable height which is an amazing feature, but it only goes up and down very little. I wanted to lower it more, but it does not allow.

Great monitor for business applications, photos and overall NON-gaming use! No blurry text/fonts!

I’ve purchased numerous monitors in the last few weeks trying to find one for “everyday/office work” as many these days are built around gaming. I was looking for color accuracy and sharp text/fonts, but found that a lot of the monitors out there render Mac fonts blurry (even with fonts smoothing disabled). The machines I’m using are all recent (2018 MBP and 2019 MBP) so it was not an OS or hardware issue.I tried a 4k IPS monitor (resolution was too high and things were small. upscaling defeated the purpose of 4k), a 32″ flat IPS monitor which the fonts looked horrible and was fished eyed since the monitor was so big and flat the edges needed to be curved, the AOC 34″ ultra wide 144Hz monitor which was ok, but was a VA panel, not very bright and fonts looked blurry.After doing hours and hours of more research curved IPS was the way to go and I finally landed on this 34″ LG monitor or the Dell 38″. with COVID the Dell’s price went back up to over 1k so I decided to give this LG with the USB C version a try. For the money, it solved my blurry font issue, screen brightness, and overall screen size for business/productivity applications.I give this monitor an 7.5 – 8 with the only improvement to be made are with the stand (the single pillar wobbles if you bump your desk), the overall look (it’s ugly compared to the other monitors from Dell, AOC, Acer, Samsung) and the ports placements. These are on the back vs bottom of the screen so cosmetically look ugly from behind and not as functional to plug in than if there were located on the bottom.With that said no more blurry fonts so for me it works!

huge upgrade from a 1080p 34 uwide variant

I have a vertical monitor setup with a 34″ same size lg ultra wide but at 1080p vertical res instead of the 1440p seen here. I replaced one with the 1440p on the bottom and the 1080p old one on top and while similar dimensions this qhd looks much much better. I was initially against qhd because the regular 16:9 ones looked too tiny in font so i always stuck to 1080p no matter how wide it got. Fast forward to 2023 and being a godot developer on linux i saw a night and day difference in readable space using a friends monitor so i jumped the gun here to get a feel for 1440p ultra wide.For reference my usage here was to be used mainly for programming and browsing. But i could not risk the va panels no matter how tempting 49″ ultra wide are because of va smearing is inescapable. Here the tried and true ips 34″ lg ultra wide. No ghosting no smearing and colors even better than my old 34″ 1080p ultra wide. No screen tearing on a amd minipc or setup needed. I ran a hdmi and purposely keep refresh to 60hz even if monitor is higher because ive learned that it doubles electricity usage for no reason if you don’t need it for every day use. Ran some emulators from dolphin to yuzu and all ran perfect on ubuntu no screen or frame issue. No dead pixels either thankfully.Vesa mount is located higher than the previous unit so i had to adjust my clamp on the vertical pole.The power cable is a legit 3pin pc power cable. No brick so that was a relief.HOWEVER the only con i can see is the mounting points are too far down to the bottom. If you’re looking for a clean 100″ floating unit with cable management you need right angle cables. Find a right angle power and hdmi/dp otherwise youll hang cables down below the bottom cutoff line of the monitor. Literally not an issue just a struggle as usual for us cable management nuts but easily remedied.Another perfect banger out of lg. Their ips panels are truly perfection. Va panels however.. lol lets not go there

University Student Review – Pros and Cons

I will try my best to make it as short and concise as possible. Note that I use this screen with two main laptop devices: ASUS zen book, and MacBook Pro M1 14″. From prospective of a university student:–Pros–* Size! I can’t emphasize this enough but this size is just perfect. It allows me to open several apps/programs at the same time. Mainly useful when reading papers or when coding (as will as following tutorials).* Versatility is pretty good. It is a little shy from perfect. That is because the lack of rotating sideways (around the vertical pivot). You would have to rotate the whole base to do that.* Picture quality is amazing. Can’t be as good as the MacBook Pro screen but it differently doesn’t look bad either. When using it with my other laptop (Asus), it shows its true perks.* USB connectivity is very useful. I won’t go into more details about this but I highly recommend searching on the web why this is useful.–Cons–* sturdiness is a bit of a problem. If you set the screen at the highest extension, it wiggles pretty easily. You would have to have a super sturdy desk to limit this wiggling but that would still not help that much.* lack of speakers. Paying this much for a screen would be great to have a built in speakers. Unfortunately, depending on your desk setup, you might want to get external speakers. I am at the point of seriously getting one after few months of use.* Not enough USB ports—-EXTRA Advice—-You might see reviews of other users online complaining about USB-C connectivity that it stopped working after a while. From my experience, this has happened to me two times where I could connect to the screen but my MacBook Pro was not charging. I found out it got back to normal once I updated the system. My take is you need to keep your system up to date all the time to ensure functionality.That is said, I am still having a problem of display settings getting back to default once my laptop gets into the sleep mode. It doesn’t happen all the time but it happens often and it is not a pleasant experience. I will update my review if I find a solution to this issue.

Nice UltraWide For MacBook (USB-C with PD and hub)

I recently changed jobs and decided to change from using a dual monitor setup to this UltraWide monitor, and overall I’m quite pleased with it. The panel in general has been good so far, and looks very nice paired with my MacBook, which was just plug and play with the included USB-C cable.For the price point, this monitor has been great and has all the features I was looking for, specifically USB-C connectivity with Power Delivery (charges laptop up to 60W, which has been plenty for my M1 MacBook Pro as well as hub/data transfer, which is nice to be able to have one cable without needing a dock (though may not be enough to charge more power hungry laptops). It is quite sleek looking with the included base, and is VESA mount capable, which I’ll likely take advantage of in the future. The screen itself is plenty bright, even with backlighting set at 50%, and is quite sleek and close to “borderless”. Colors look natural and the resolution is sharp and looks great with MacOS. The built-in speakers are also fine, better than many other monitors I’ve used/owned, but not a substitute for external speakers for listening to music, at least for me. For general/office use they’re fine.My one “nit-pick” is that the screen has a factory installed matte film over it which I understand is to reduce glare and finger prints. In concept this is a nice idea, and it does make the monitor easy to clean. That said, when first opening/turning on i could see a few tiny bubbles/imperfections near the edges which made me think this was a removable plastic film… it’s not. The bubbles/imperfections are hardly noticeable, only with close inspection of the borders when the screen is off. Very minor imprecation in this built-in film aside, I do see benefits in glare reduction and ease of cleaning. All that said, it would be nice if there were no imperfections at all… considering this was pre-installed at the factory and is not removable without damaging the screen.Overall, I’ve found this to be a good monitor for the price point, and have been quite satisfied with it.

Easyy to assemble parts

PRO: I have only had it for less than a month ,picture is great, clear and wide. Even for a senior citizen this was extremely easy to put togeter parts “push & click” togeter easily , only self-screw used is conveniently provided & folds under stand. Very attractive monitor I’ve had positive remarks for all who have viewed it. CONS: The so called “joy stick” controls to the monitor are on right middle side & somewhat cumbersome to reach other LG largescreens have them at the bottum central area I still have not mastered the joystick mechanics well & they are a bit sporadic in nature . LG Support states that there are speakers on this monitor but I have yet to make them function but no biggie since I use a bluetooth ear device. Warnings NEVER to lay monitor on its side were too far down the instructions to use in time but it still works well.

Fantastic monitor with some issues

I got this to hook up to my business laptop (HP Elitebook 1040 X360 G7). The screen split software works well for what I need it to do without any issues and the colors are sharp. I use this monitor on a commercial grade standing desk which has a butcher block top so it’s very sturdy.The #1 gripe I have with it is that the mount is absolute junk if your desk has ANY movement at all when you’re typing. I mean the thing wobbles constantly when I’m typing because the mount is not sturdy enough. It’s endlessly irritating. Going to have to get a monitor stand to hook up to my desk for this one because the amount of wobble here is just absurd.The colors are good for office use (I won’t be gaming on it), so the refresh rate also doesn’t matter to me since I didn’t buy it for gaming.Now for the good part: The USB-C connection is amazing. I can run my mouse and keyboard off the inputs on the monitor, so I don’t need to mess around with cables. Fantastic connectivity options which was the #1 reason I got this monitor to begin with. I moved up to this unit after my motherboard died on my desktop, where I was using dual 20″ 1600×1200 monitors (yes I’m old school like that), and the width and height is the same compared to those two monitors, which makes me ecstatic. Documents and web browsing wastes very little space when windows are split side by side. Perfect what I need it to do.Honestly I’m overall happy with the monitor, but shame on LG for putting such a weak monitor stand on this thing.

Solid office monitor for my WFH setup (software development)

This is a review for the LG 34WQ73A-B, which appears to be a recent release (9/2022, review written 12/2022). TL;DR: This is an extremely good value for office use. I have more expensive monitors and I compare them in detail below.I have three other monitors to compare this against: an LG UltraFine 5K 27″, an LG 4k 27″ and an Alienware 34″ with the same resolution (gaming, 144hz). I went with this monitor (34WQ73A-B) because it has an IPS panel and my other LG IPS 4K and 5K screens have very good color accuracy; my MacBook Pro renders text to both very well. I didn’t need a high refresh for gaming, just 60Hz for office work as a software developer working in design systems. I have this placed next to my 5K UltraFine, which makes it easy to discern where it is a step down (pixel density). That said, it holds up well and is very comparable to my Alienware 34″ at the same resolution. Font smoothing isn’t as ideal as the 5K, but it looks good enough to not bother me at all. I use it for Zoom meetings, browser windows, and also code editing. I still prefer the 5K for previewing output (web development work on the front-end) but I’ll use this when the details or colors don’t matter as much.Regarding alternatives on the market, I had also considered stepping up to a 38″ monitor for 2-2.5x the price but I couldn’t justify the difference. It would have been the same pixel density, and only going to a 5K2K monitor at 38-40″ would have been a real improvement, but those cost around 4-5x as much. Like I said, next to a 5K 27″ monitor, it holds up and I’m not disappointed one bit, it does what it sets out to do very well. The value here is unmatched.I also compared its HDR performance next to my 5K and it held up really well (see the first photo with both displays). I had to turn the brightness to 100%, and made sure the HDR options were enabled. It was slightly less bright than my 5K, so I intentionally lowered the brightness on my 5K to match it better; the 5K was at 100% initially which was probably too bright for everyday use in the first place. The 5K at around 50% brightness matches the 34WQ73A-B at 100% brightness, so I feel like the 34WQ73A-B is a relatively dim monitor best suited to medium to low light settings. I don’t work in a bright room, I keep my lights low and warm, so this is not an issue. In a bright space with lots of sunlight, it could be more of an issue, so keep that in mind. It probably wouldn’t matter with good contrast, but darker images might not show up as well.If I could call out any other cons, it would probably be the backlight bleed. One photo shows approximately what you would see in a dark room (I turned off the lights) and the photo with a brighter backlight bleed is from the camera auto-exposing to a higher degree. It does not look like the brighter photo but it’s still a good photo to show what the backlight variance is like. In everyday use, it’s not a problem. I think it would handle a movie just fine even with dark scenes, it would just fall short of what an OLED TV panel could do.Again, if you research what a panel like this can do, I think this is going to deliver on what it should be capable of. At the current price point, it’s one of the best values I’ve ever had in all my monitor purchasing. Each of my four monitors all fill a slightly different expectation and I’m pretty happy with my two setups for gaming (27″ 4K + 34″ 3440×1440 144Hz) and office (27″ 5K + this LG 34″ 3440×1440 60Hz). I think this is ideal as a value-oriented office monitor and you’d have to spend 5x as much to really have a noticeable upgrade in the ultrawide format.

Great first impression

I got this the first day it was available for purchase. I’ve another 29″ LG IPS ultra wide as well, which has been great, but I’ve been looking for a larger screen. I used a 43″ 4k tv for a while but quickly gave up as my neck started to hurt from looking up. I do a lot of work that requires a large screen. I prefer one large screen over two small ones to stay focused. The screen size and the price were right and a great value for the features. I needed to calibrate it. After that colors were super accurate. The IPS panel did help The curve made it easier to focus too. The simple to operate height adjustment was a great bonus, and very useful to me since I have a height adjustable desk. I don’t game – haven’t in a long while at least, so I don’t know how it’ll work there. I program and render graphics, both of which are easier with this monitor. Overall, I have been very happy with my purchase and highly recommend it, especially if you’re going to use it for anything that requires accurate colors and sharp looking images.

Good picture quality, but USB-C does not work

Updated two weeks after purchase:I ended up returning this. The height adjustment issue mentioned below is a deal breaker. I also felt that the ultra wide feature does not improve productivity as much as people said. So I will stick to a normal monitorPros: very good picture quality. I connected it with my macbook pro M1 and I found the fonts too small at 3440 x 1440 (default), so I scaled it up to 2560 x 1080. Looks good nowCons: the USB-port for some reason did not work. After connecting it, the screen does not have any signal.Also, it is good that this monitor has a height adjustment feature, but the lowest point of the monitor is still too high. I must sit up straight in order to look at it from a comfortable angleOverall it has some really good aspect but some major issue. I am debating if I should keep it or return it.

INCREDIBLE MONITOR

My old laptop allowed me to connect two external monitors. I got a new one in 2020 that only allows one external monitor and with my job, I need as many screens as possible. I bought this one for size & the curved shape for more productivity and space on my desk. IT WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY. It’s sturdy, the screen is clear and vibrant. It fits on my desk perfectly and I can fit so many projects on it at once. I also watched netflix on it while eating lunch & the video was incredible, which leads me to believe gamers would do well with this monitor. Best monitor I’ve had hands down. Gladly passed down my Mac monitors for this one. It was also super easy to set up right out of the box and came with a ton of cords for HDMI & USB-C

Very durable and yet more than what what is needed for average computer use.

Best computer monitor I have ever own. I have haul this monitor around to many places in a travel trailer and yet it continues to function like new. The monitor sit on a hard table top in my trailer secure with a single bungee cord. I have transported it on long trap facedown in the trunk of my SUV with no padding. Yet it continues to function with no defect. The picture quality is the best. So, what do use this monitor for/with? Mostly use with my iPad 11 Pro (2020) for general computing. Since the iPad is my primary computer, I just get a big square (viewable area) in the middle of the screen with two black bars on the right and left side of the screen. The viewable area is approximately about 23 inches diagonally. Some contents like movies and photos will fill the screen for view pleasure. The blue color USB port in the back of the screen allows me to connect blue USB devices like flash drives and high performance cameras with no problem. Over all this was a good buy. I’m happy.

So far its great

I just received and setup this monitor, and so far I am fairly happy with it. All ports work as intended, the picture quality is very good, and colors are vibrant. A few comments that are somewhat annoying:Wish this had freesync, even with a 60hz refresh. The ergo version of this monitor has freesync but no usb-c, which is why i decided to go with this model. I use a mac in addition to a PC so the usb-c was a must have on my list.The packaging did not come with a displayport cable, but did come with hdmi and usb-c. This was a bit annoying.I dont understand why LG doesnt sell the ergo version with a usb-c port , as this would have been the ideal monitor purchase for me covering all my needs. Somehow this monitor is more expensive than that version, all for just having a usb-c port. I am left having to choose between a usb-c port without the ergo stand, or the ergo stand with no usb-c. Alternatively, it would be nice to have the option to purchase the ergo stand separately if they cannot sell a usb-c version of the ergo model.

Bought this monitor for working at home

I am not a game player or computer expert. The reason I bought this monitor, because I need to work from home. It is very hard if I use laptop, because the monitor is so small.I connected with my office laptop Dell Latitude 7490, first, I did not use USB C docking station, I was so disappointed. Because the resolution cannot be maximized according to monitor screen. But I know that is not the monitor problem. I was thinking, problem would be from my laptop. I read a lot of articles about how to maximize the resolution, for upgrading laptop resolution. As you see the first picture, there were black screen on each side.My office laptop also gave me a warning, if this big monitor was plugged in without using USB C docking station, it will drain out the battery of my laptop. Please remember that I am not computer expert, so I didn’t know, it will drain out the battery of my laptop.Therefore, I am using the USB C docking Station. So, I plugged in the monitor, the laptop thru USB C docking station. Hey…surprisingly it synchronized the resolution of the monitor.I was so happy 😍😍So far, I do not have problems with the monitor. But, I never use that monitor for playing games, I can’t give a comment for gaming.

USB ports provide no power!!

I just completed my new monitors on the wall build, complete with stereo speakers, 4k monitor on top for watching media (movies, streaming, etc) and this monitor on bottom for that great ultra wide real estate it provides to boost productivity in the office. I’m sure it’s also a great gaming monitor. However, I would like to clear up some confusion that seems to be out there about the 2 USB 3.0 ports on the back of the monitor. I wanted to install LED lights that plug into a USB port, but, alas, no lights! I tried the 2nd port and, again, same thing. I called LG support about this and they advised that you can only get power from the USB 3.0 ports if you have the USB-C port connected to your computer. THEN the USB 3.0 ports come alive. So I tested this and, sure enough, the USB 3.0 ports provided poer tp the LEDs once the USB-C port was connected to the computer. A minor inconvenience to run the USB-C cable through the wall to keep that wireless appearance, but well worth it. I also love the windows snap software this monitor comes with. It helps me work so much faster when I can post more windows, especially with the Win 10 multiple desktop feature. I love that! Overall, very pleased and glad to be taking the leap from the old dual 19 inch square monitor setup to this new creature comfort.

Tons of screen real estate, single cable USB-C connection that charges laptop, plays nice with macOS

Bought this monitor to use with 2019 MacBook Pro 13. The main features I was looking for: lots of screen real estate, single cable USB-C connection to supply video/audio/data to the monitor while charging my laptop, and 3440×1440 resolution to play nice with macOS. This monitor checked off those three boxes and I’m very happy with the purchase.This monitor is being used for productivity and general use – I am not a gamer and have no insight as to the gaming potential for this display.Setup was plug-and-play with the included USB-C cable powering my laptop, which sits closed off to the side while I use an Apple Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad 2 with this monitor. I use an app called MonitorControl (GitHub) to control the monitor’s brightness/audio volume via the keyboard controls, otherwise I had to use the joystick control underneath the monitor. I also have a USB receiver plugged into the monitor for occasional use with a wireless mouse and I have experienced zero issues so far.For those planning to use external monitors with Mac computers, I recommend seeing them in person (connected to a Mac) before buying. Due to the way macOS scales the display on external monitors, 4K/5K+ displays either provide tons of real estate with text that is very small (running at their native resolution), or less real estate than anticipated with large text (when choosing other macOS-preferred resolutions). In my opinion 3440×1440 is ideal for an ultrawide monitor with macOS – running at native resolution leaves plenty of real estate with text that is clear and plenty legible for me. The display is slightly less than retina quality but from my viewing distance I’m beyond happy with the results.

Fantastic work/productivity/coding monitor, and screen split software is great

I bought this monitor to help with my neck pain – I realized that I had been slightly turned to one side all day when using a secondary monitor to the left of my laptop screen. Now, I have one big monitor right in front, and my head turning is more evenly distributed.The resolution is fantastic, the setup was super simple (once I used the USB-C…for some reason, the HDMI cable made the resolution funky), and it looks great. I’ve been using the monitor for a month and (knock on wood) haven’t noticed any issues.I really like LG’s OnScreen software, which allows you to choose from a large number of split screen configurations. I’m on Windows, and the usual options are 1/2 screen and 1/4 screen. The LG software is nicely integrated on my desktop and allows me to use 1/3’s, a 2/3+1/3 configuration, and more.Great value for money in my opinion.

Pretty good, but there are options with better displays if you pay a bit more

I purchased this monitor alongside a Acer XR342CK Pbmiiqphuzx, because they are both USB-C enabled 34″ 1440p ultrawides in order to compare the two, with the main difference being the Acer one has 100 hz refresh rate, so it’s better suited for gaming. All-in-all the LG one is pretty good for the money and picture quality wise I wasn’t wowed, but pretty much satisfied with what I was getting for ~$500. The colors were a bit on the warm side, and none of the color options were quite perfect. But, you can probably get used to either the gaming or cinema (can’t remember exact names) color modes pretty quickly. On its own, if I hadn’t ordered two monitors at once, I probably would have stuck with the 34WN80C and saved myself the hassle of more trial and error.However, after comparing this monitor with the Acer Pbmiiqphuzx, I decided to keep the Acer one instead. It has a slightly “clearer” display, even though both are 1440p IPS panels. You probably won’t notice unless you are nitpicking both side-by-side, but I couldn’t help but notice that my windows taskbar icons were just a bit more grainy on the LG than the Acer or my current Asus 27″ 1440p monitor. I also do some light gaming, so the “upgrade” to the Acer was also worth the optionality of being able to play FPS games at a much higher refresh rate. The jump from 60 hz -> 100 hz is very very noticeable, and even for that alone I would recommend the Acer one over the LG. If you’re sure you’ll only be productivity focused and really want to save some extra bucks, then the LG 34WN80C is a good bet as well.

Great monitor overall, but not top line speed.

I was shopping around a while for a 35in 4k ultrawide curved monitor and decided to go with this lg version and so far I am very satisfied with my purchase. I’m mostly a designer and part time gamer, so I had to choose between good picture or fast refresh and since I mostly spend my time designing I opted for quality. Ideally it would have both, but the price point for both is quite a bit more expensive. That said, if your not a big gamer, or more specifically a competitive gamer, then the 60mhz refresh rate of this monitor is most likely not a problem. Also just to note, light bleed around edges does not appear nearly as significant as some of the other comments have pointed out, so that may have been fixed, or I got lucky.Pros:- Excellent picture quality, good blacks, does not look washed out at all.- Good sharpness, haven’t noticed any blurry fonts or ghosting.- no dead pixels, only had it for a few days but so far no pixel issues- Name brand manufacturer, good stand, overall weight not very heavy, can easily be wall mounted.- Anti glare coatingCons- max 60mhz refresh, though for most people that is all you need.- Anti glare coating not explained on marketing or packaging, if your like me and didn’t know this was a thing you might think there is film over the screen and try to peel it off (like me).

Great monitor in every way except for the on/off button!

This is a great monitor – bright and beautiful and the performance seems great. The stand and the adjustments are all top-notch. The only issue is that LG has elected to NOT have a dedicated on/off button, but rather a multi-function switch that was designed in the bowels of hell. It adjusts everything from brightness to picture and is also supposed to be the on/off button. Most of the time it works. Sometimes, it is nearly impossible to turn the monitor off because it keeps opening the settings menu or the brightness or the accessibility. It is infuriating and maddening, and I just wanted to vent after trying unsuccessfully to turn my monitor off five times in a row. Alas.

Great large monitor for working at home!

I bought this for working at home. I have this monitor at work. It was easy to put together. I live that it is adjustable in height and tilt. The picture quality is great. I can have several windows open and visible on this monitor.
