Logitech’s good, bad, and the ugly

If you’re interested in getting a HOTAS setup I would definitely try to find others. Logitech has usually been a decent choice for me, although they do have their fair share of stinkers. The good part of the X52 is that it looks really nice. The bad is that the control stick wiggles quite a bit and I had to adjust the deadzone so that it wouldn’t register the wiggle. Also the stick doesn’t move very smoothly most likely caused by the metal spring plate not being smoothed out. Finally the ugly, which is the fact that u need to go to the Logitech website for the X52 and download the software/driver for it to work (however sometimes it can bring about new problems). Before I downloaded the software/driver the lights for the throttle controller wouldn’t light up.There’s also a rather annoying throttle detent that interrupts the smoothness of the throttle at 25% and 75%. There are video tutorials on how to remove itI would highly recommend looking for something different because for $200 it’s not that great

Works well after struggle to update and Programming for MS Flight Simulator was cumbersome

Installing the updates for 64 bit windows 10 was a problem – was able to eventually get it done – could use a better interface for programming the buttons for ms flight simulator – once all buttons are programmed and working as intended it’s it is a delight to use.

Nice joystick, although pricey decent as far as joystick prices go

I have to say I have been impressed with this joystick. I hadn’t expected to spend so much money on one but having seen some reviews of the cheaper ones I thought this was a good “middle of the road” one to go for before the prices get pretty insane. It is well built, adjustable, has millions of buttons and sliders to control your games. It definitely adds to the emersion and makes controlling applicable games much for fun. They are still a bit pricey though (even more so at the moment) and the software to control it from Logitech needs updating, its pretty old. Still, I would, overall, recommend it.

I bought mine used and I love it syncs right up!!!

I play Elite Dangerous and it syncs right up! no need to mess with the micros on the logitech software supporting it. I’m not so sure how it does on other flight simulators but it’s meant for SPACE flight and Elite Dangerous is one of the best and I’m satisfied!! thought I was going to spend some time key binding the controls but Elite Dangerous has it all registered! I’m loving it I bought mine used only one botton was out with a ding on the base of the throttle. It maybe stiff at first but it will loosen up and all the adjustments are great! I bought another one for my cousin for when we play Elite Dangerous together I’m having alot of fun with it! I trust this product and I got mine used. It’s a grand experience! I can say I’ve lost myself to flight controller!!

    Trouble re-centering sometimes,

Sometimes after a hard turn the joystick will not center properly and drift downwards. I have only had ot for about 4 weeks and don’t use it super often. Still fun to use and play on

    Good, but with some caveats

This is a good joystick and throttle, with caveats. I would have liked to give it 5 satraps but there were some issues, which were thankfully salvageable.Issue #1) joystick tension is too light for my preference with no option to adjust tension. I fixed this by wedging a zip tie ring above the spring.Issue #2) after about an hour the joystick kept sticking and it felt like it was grinding on something. Turns out it just needed some grease, and rubbing chapstick along the shaft fixed this issue. With these little fixes in mind, I’m happy with my purchase so far.

    Good flight stick but…

This is a great hotas plenty of configurable controls . Software is dateted and a little frustrating. My only real complaint is the centering on the flight stick. It never quite centers perfectly.

    To much play

I love the feel of these, sadly though, there is way to much play before you get any feed back on your X and Y axis. The throttle though is awesome, but as for the yoke, way to much play, can’t accurately line the aircraft up with these. Will be returning.

    Perfect Once Tweaked

This is a solidly built, and fully featured HOTAS that works as expected on Win 10. The programming software allowed me to set up 80 different commands and macros for CFS3, and there are still more buttons and dials left unassigned. The only issue was that the stick would frequently get hung up in the center. This has been reported by many others with a variety of root causes and fixes being speculated on. The tweak that fixed it for me was to bind a pair of adjacent coils on the outer spring to each other with 2 twist ties on opposite sides. This reduced the force on the sliding cup and cone just enough to prevent it becoming bound together without losing the self-centering function.

    Good value for the money

I bought this a few months ago to use for Microsoft flight sim 20 and for DCS. I used it on a gaming laptop with the newest windows 11. When I plugged in the HOTAS I was a little upset to see that the software didn’t work with windows 11 and only the older versions and they haven’t put out an update for it yet. There are work around a for this. Regardless though it still does work and works pretty well without the updated drivers. The only issue you’ll find is some lack of customization in keybinds and the throttle portion of the HOTAS will not light up. Either way I used it pretty seamlessly on DCS and MSFS20. For a beginner setup I think it’s a great buy. You get a ton of buttons and controls that allows you to get pretty immersed in the game without dropping $500+ on the more premium setups. Some of the pretty big YouTubers who play flight sims have started on this setup as well and still recommend it before going premium. It comes with suction cups that stick very securely to your desk and they worked very well. Once they’re down they’re gonna stay there. I had to move my setup so I removed the suction cups and I did find that once they were removed they did pop up a few times since there was no easy way to remove them in the first place without getting a fingernail under one edge and breaking the seal which did deform the edge a little. The joystick is pretty solid but the motion does feel a little “budget” the spring tension can feel weak thus resulting in some drift which can be altered and fixed in game through the axis sensitivity etc. overall I probably have about 35 hours on it and I would recommend it for a beginner budget setup again without jumping into the premium setups. If you’re just getting into flight sims and don’t want one of those all in one joysticks then this would be a good rout for you.

The perfect gift For my gamer

My husband and I are are in our 50s so that means we’re Gen X. Granted, not a lot of Gen Xers do a lot of gaming but my husband does and I love to hear him laugh when he’s on discord with his friends. Anyway, I asked him what he wanted for Christmas and he sent me a link. It was the first gift he opened up and I’m so glad I got it for him.

why I returned it. wanted to use for dcs and arma

I had bought it for dcs and arma 3 thinking it would be a plug and play hotas. oh boy was I wrong i pluged it in and the programing software never downloaded i had to look for the programing software. the throttle works great but the joystick is so touchy in i never tryed to fiddle with the settings arma. in dcs however either the joystick moves all the way to the right or to the left. it was a waste of money for me and will be returning it soon. the joystick did not meet expectations.

    Great HOTAS for the price

I bought the x52 pro primarily for use in Star Citizen. it’s my first HOTAS and i wanted to have something that would last. I’m pretty happy with the product overall. my main complaint is with the cable that connects the throttle to the stick. it’s pretty short, and can wiggle loose if you aren’t careful. The software is incredibly clunky but after you work through the quirks, it’s manageable. The software does have a graphic representation of the throttle and stick and will light up the buttons that you press to help you figure out what the mappings are, which is nice.Word of caution, if you have the joy.cpl control panel open in windows, it will prevent macros from being sent from the x52 pro software. I struggled for quite a while before i realized the issue.if you chose this for star citizen, i recommend avoiding the built in x52 pro profile. instead, erase all HOTAS bindings and start from scratch. you will be better off in the long run

Cool, but kind of cheaply made for the price

I bought this pro edition over the regular x52 thinking the build quality would be stellar and would have the durability to last a long time without too much maintenance in the long-term. It arrived with some kind of resistance in the spring that made it feel awkward to use (and less controllable than a mouse) and was a real pain in the ass trying to work around for a $200+ peripheral. Also, the software that comes with this thing is hellishly outdated (stopped updating it 10 years ago) and was painful to use. That said, the potential is there with the ergonomics and all the control customization. If you’re super into flight sims and you’re not afraid to spend a lot of time working on this thing then the x52 pro is probably for you. I am not one of these people, so I think I’ll just stick to my mouse and keyboard for the time being.

    Decent for the price

Bought this thing in December 2020, its now Late June, 2023 and its just now having issues. for the price, 3 and a half years of abuse isnt bad at all. my Stick A,B, and C (3,5,6 in the properties) are stuck on, but switching the mode toggle on the stick unsticks the problem, so i can work around it til i order a new stick.

    Programming Software Rocks

Have been using the X52 Pro for 2yrs now. The drift I periodically experience goes away through power cycling the HOTAS. For the price, it’s a good HOTAS. Mid range HOTAS are $500 – $700. Top tier HOTAS systems are $1000 to $2000 with all options. I have my X52 Pro plugged into a conveniently located, powered USB hub that has an on/off button for each port, which allows me to cycle the power to the HOTAS to reset any drift. You can get the X52 Pro new for less than $200 if you wait for a sale. My afterburner detent wore out, so I voided the warranty and removed the detent, which I didn’t like anyways. I like the HOTAS better without the afterburner detent.

Best value for a full function flight control system

From someone who’s been into top level flight combat sims since the late 90’s, this is an excellent value for a flight control system. I started with the TM F16 and WCS/RCS and migrated to the TQS to the Cougar system and finally to the Warthog along with a Saitek X36 system for my kids. The X52 is a great system that balances the need for full HOTAS control and reasonable price. Yes, it still uses potentiometers instead of hall effect or optical sensors in the top end controllers but if I ever wear them out, the replacement is simple, similar to doing it on the old F16 FLCS. USB connectivity is great and configuring or using pre configured switch settings for simulations is straight forward and simple.

    Worth the money

The only flaw I’ve found with this product is that when moving the joystick to the left (rolling left), something catches on the metal “washer” looking piece under the spring and the plastic panel below it. Otherwise, this product is absolutely amazing.

    Great

Works great. Built well. For those of you who don’t know, you have to plug in the joystick to the back of the throttle and then plug in the throttle into your computer.

Good value and build, but bad accessories and comfort

First, the stick did not come with any suction pads/surface stops to help keep it stable on whatever surface you place it on. You’ll have to do this yourself or expect some wobble.

Solid HOTAS for the price point

Not a beginner’s HOTAS but not the best either. Just a solid unit for the price. I have had no problems with mine. The ergonomics is among some of the best with the throttle being especially comfortable. The only thing particularly poorly planned is the guarded fire button on the stick. It is nearly impossible to use in the heat of battle. Someone may find it useful though.

    Joystick/Throttle control

After hooking it up, I noticed that the lights on the throttle control wouldn’t stay lit. After a little fooling around with and some hit and miss, I figured out that if I did a restart on the computer the lights would come back on and stay on. It’s anybody’s guess why this works. It’s a nice set-up if I can get all the bugs worked out.

    Sometimes Issues but amazing

I use this for flying in Elite Dangerous in and out of VR. Is very simple to remember the locations of the buttons without needing eyes. The controls are simple and the only problems I had are when the connector got partially unplugged.

    One of the better joysticks!

Con: A bit pricey because of the Pandemic. Very few places left to buy a Joystick or any kind of Flight Controls. With everyone staying home because of the pandemic, it is evident that the majority of places to buy things for the PC are all or almost all sold out. A lot of price gouging is going on. I paid $100.00 more for this product than the original price.Pro: Logitech is one of the best game joysticks available. Right out of the box, I have enjoyed this product. No issues and responses are good.

If you enjoy flying, this stick is worth the price.

I’ve used a couple different HOTAS and flight sticks, all in the lower price range. I have to say, you get what you pay form the x52 out of the box works phenomenally and issues that I’ve had with other sticks seem to be a none factor. I would 100% recommend this to anyone who loves flight sims or anything flying related. Yeah you might be able to get a cheaper one sooner, but in the end your paying to avoid a lot of headache and anxiety.

    Great Stick

This setup is good and almost great. The spring to bring the stick back to center needs to be rethought. Also the throttle tensioner doesn’t work so well. The throttle knobs are too stiff. Logitech software is better than most.

    What? No instructions or manuals?

How does an item in such large demand and couldn’t find anywhere, it doesn’t come with any information, button assignment or software. Two controllers in a box. For 200.00? Not even a basic manual to work with MS Flight Sim 10. My son set this up for me and I couldn’t figure out how to release the brake in the airplane I was flying. Nice controllers, well lit, but vague on instructions
