    I love it!

My VR headset is amazing! Using the quest 2 is a cheaper option than the quest 3 and in my opinion they do the same things. The battery life is about an hour or 2 on the headset itself so if you would like to play long I would suggest getting an extention charging cable aswell. The controllers last a long time I’ve have this for 4 months and have only had to change them once. The strap that comes with it is a little too loose in my opinion so I would also advise getting a tighter strap if you play more quick action games like myself. Overall the quality and amount of games you can play are excellent!

    kids love it

my kids bought this with their money and love it. takes up a very small space, seems very durable, and they said it’s higher quality than the meta quest 3 model. they are saving up for another 2, but apparently they’re hard to get and went up in price. good indoor activity that seems to require some body movement/exercise and can play with other friends virtually.

This is the Absolute Best thing I have ever purchased for myself.

I bought this for video games, I have since been blown away by what I have found to be freely available.I have tried around 150 apps/games/experiences. I have only paid for about 8 of them. I learned how to make music tracks in Virtuoso, I took a tour of Ann Frank’s house, I learned how it felt to lose your eye sight and experience your surroundings through sound, I have seen countless documentaries (which is a whole new experience since you are there in the world), I got to fly through the International Space Station, I have fought as a gladiator against man and beast, I have fired up my last shot against hordes of zombies before resorting to baseball bats as the adrenaline sores, I have spent many hours exercising in a variety of games, but one of my favorite is Moon Rider (a free VR web browser title)(it’s a rhythm game that can be played with light sabers or by punching the beats), and I have also attended concerts and enjoyed events while still being able to be my normal introverted self.My computer is not at all capable of working with VR, so that sucks, but the amount of stuff the Quest 2 can do stand alone is insanely impressive! There is so much here, it is like buying yourself a second life. I highly recommend reading up ahead of time on a site such as UploadVr. They have great introductory stories hidden away on that site specifically to prepare you and educate you on the Quest 2.My 65 year old mother even bought one, primarily for indoor exercise, but she also enjoys the travel apps which is as close to going somewhere as you can get without going there. Personally I enjoy the free Virtual Traveller, but I think my mother uses a pay app.If you are on the fence about this, stop right now and just buy it.The only caveat to this is that you do need enough well lit space that you can swing your arms about in a circle.I very quickly made more and more and more room in my living room. Now with the holidays I new there would be trouble. I punched a Christmas ball off the tree yesterday whole in a demo fight in an amazing boxing game called The Fight. I still haven’t found that ball. It was a good solid left hook! I’ve also punched the ceiling while jumping and grabbing for a frisbee in the free zero g space sports game that plays like a cross between Ender’s Game and Tron. In the gladiator game Gladius I ended up punching the handle off my decorative display cabinet. I cut my hand up on that one. The point here is you need space. Even when you try not to move, you move! There is a digital barrier that you start to see if you get too close to the edge, but in the heat of the moment it’s not always enough.

The best VR headset on the market right now

I spent a few weeks deciding on if I wanted to get the quest 2 and a finally decided to pull the trigger years ago I had the occulas gear for my galaxy s8 and that was when VR was still working out it’s kinks something that I always had a problem with when it came to old VR headsets was motion sickness and I didn’t have any at all with the quest 2 I love how the quest 2 rests on your face with the cousin, I rarely get face strain when I use it for long periods of time. I love how Facebook has integrated with occulas to make using the operating system a breeze. I have heard complaints from other users shaming Facebook for requiring a Facebook account to use the quest but I’ve never seen the big deal in that. Facebook bought occulas and they have the right to require an account to use there product. People use the excuse that Facebook is trying to steal data but if you use the internet at all your going to have your data exploited no matter what 🤷‍♂️ that’s just the way it is. If you don’t have anything to hide then what’s the problem? If you do decide to bite the bullet and get the quest some games I would recommed are beat saber, hand physics lab, and horizon worlds. Some things I’d like to point out for new users is 1 the head strap that comes in the box. It’s a good headstrap but it does cause some problems every now and then. Due to the lightweight nature of the headstrap it makes the occulas a little front heavy and forces you to tighten the headstrap so the unit stays on your head and after time can start to give you a headache. If your looking to get a different hadstrap I’d warn you not to get the elite strap from occulas there prone to breaking due to some weak points and it’s not worth the 150 bucks in my opinion. Instead I’d recommend looking around at 3rd party headstraps and selecting one based on what you think would work best for you. Personally I use a 3rd party headstrap from kiwi that has some weight on the back of it to counterbalance the weight from the front of the unit I’ve found it miles more comfortable then the stock headstrap. One other think that I would recommend is investing in a pair of wireless earbuds. The quest has Bluetooth functionality and is able to pair with anything Bluetooth including earbuds. I love to workout with my quest and I love good audio it gets my in the zone and really gives me the immersion I’m looking for. So with that being said I would recommend a pair of skullcandy earbuds they have a good balance of highs and lows and there not that pricey either (around 30 bucks) overall the quest 2 does have some kinks but nothing that some creativity can’t fix. If you read this all the way through thanks! I hope you found it helpfull!

My older Lenovo explorer is better and actually stays on my head more comfortably. But this was nice due to its wireless functionality.

    Awesome.

The only reason I got this is because my Son had one. And when i traveled to North Carolina to visit him, he let me play with it, now mind you, I’m a Wheelchair user of 40 years. And I had MANY questions about this because I thought it was ONLY usable for people that walked and moved around. In MOST Cases this isn’t true. IF you are in a wheelchair you ARE Able to use an Oculus. Most if not all games are compatible to use in the Sitting position, this I did not know from the beginning. So i was able to play with his Oculus while visiting him last December and had a Blast, Now some of it was difficult cause some games required you to move your body so trying to use my elbows to move my chair out of the way of incoming bullets and dodging was more difficult in FPS type games. I managed some but was still a Challange. Some of the other games uses the Hand controls top hats to move your character around and such so playing basketball or fishing or some other games was a little easier as I could just walk my character with the thumb sticks to get him/her to move around. So with that in mind, When I found it on sale for the first time ($200) I bought one. We recently went back to visit our son in North Carolina and intended on playing some games with him since we both have 1 now. But unfortunately, that didn’t happen, I landed in the hospital for a week with a bad infection so couldn’t play any games. But I’d recommend this for anyone walking or sitting. Has some great games usable in both sitting and standing position.

    It’s only getting cheaper

For an entry vr headset it has been a good experience. The only issues I’ve had are due to the fact that I ordered a cheap cable and that I’m running games off a gaming laptop with a weak 3050ti. However, even after I upgraded to the kiwi design link cable, the oculus connectivity sometimes refuses to detect my headset, resulting in me having to restart my computer. I have also gotten a bug where my visuals instantly become extremely delayed which makes me sick to look at for too long. The only fix is to turn the headset off and then back on. The head trap that is included is also garbage, replace it instantly if you have the funds. Although I have had so many issues, I still rate this headset 4/5 because it is simply too cheap to rate lower. For anybody looking to get into the hobby it’s an amazing buy.

    Super fun & GREAT quality!

I got this product for my boyfriend’s birthday and he talked about how he’s always wanted a VR headset, so I decided to get him a QUEST 2! He likes it a lot because it doesn’t generally have to be plugged into his PC and he can play at the comfort of his room instead of directly at his setup. The charging takes a while, but we love playing racing games or connecting our Steam account to it! The color is sleek and it’s super high quality! I’m glad this is the official brand, but it did take 2-3 weeks longer than expected to arrive..

Quite the experience for the price!

Quality: High, but very heavy on the face.Gaming experience: Amazing! Comfortable in most cases, but sometimes can make you sick. Most games you can play cost money.Battery life: Not bad, but not good. It dies after only 2 hours of games, and I use VR regularly. Don’t leave the headset on after taking it off, or it will die quicker.OS: Modified Android. The game download files end with .MetaQuest.APKGame Modification: Compatible, only with headset and PC. Limited mods except for on PCVR and SteamVR.Overall: 4 stars. Great headset. You have to buy this! If it’s your first time playing VR, this is the headset you need.

    Wow… the material is BAD.

I understand why they added the new face covers. The material is BAAAAD. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great headset. Stronger than the Quest 1, cheaper and lighter. HOWEVER, the build quality is not as great as the Quest 1. They’re kind of going the Quantity over Quality route.I’ve owned the Quest 1, HP Reverb G2, and Valve Index. Unfortunately, I had to downscale so I sold my index and got a Quest 2. This is how I look at it.First off, the face cover… it feels like cheap memory foam they pulled out of a car’s seats. Within 5 seconds, my face felt like it did on the Quest 1 in an hour long gaming session. The new covers fix that, but man, I never thought I’d miss the old cover so much. The old ones honestly felt decent. Not too premium, not too rough. It honestly felt like I was rubbing a fine sponge on my face, first time using this thing. The controllers also look worse. They feel the same as the older ones, but they look like they were put together in a rush. On the older controllers, there were barely any noticeable gaps in the plastic, but they are SO obvious here. EDIT : New note; Tracking somehow seems worse… I’d say 3/4 times I use the headset, my Tracking is lost while I’m playing in a pretty well lit and detailed room. The Tracking of the controllers also seems worse. Functionally, it is the same. But Tracking on the Quest 1 definitely felt much smoother. The head strap is part downgrade/part neutral. I find it good that you can upgrade them, but we’re talking about the base straps. The Quest 2 straps pinch your hair, if you’ve just recently cut them and they also chew on your ears. Of this whole experience I’ve had with the Quest 2, it’s been my ears that have been the most annoyed. Audio is also lopsides, with my left hearing more than right. I’m gonna assume this can be resolved with some kind of RMA, but I’m fine with this. The software somehow also feels like a downgrade (or over complication and under complication). In the older versions (Quest 1 versions), you could find most things on one tab and basic functions were in submenus. Everything is all over the place now, and settings is placed in the library like an app… that’s just weird. Also, the controllers… they represent where your fingers are a lot less than the older ones. It’s a small detail, but it got me so immersed in the Quest 1. It doesn’t sit well with me, but it’s a minor problem.Lastly, IPD adjustment… I guess it’s not that big of a deal, but I’d have preferred a ‘by the millimeter’ system. It does its job though. As for pros of this headset, there’s a lot…1. It’s a cheap entry into VR and you won’t even need a PC.2. Oculus Software is usually pretty clean (I don’t like how it changed so much, but I’ll get used to it.)3. You can play PCVR with it.4. It generally improved on its predecessor, and at a lower cost.5. You can upgrade comfort.Would I recommend it? If you’re willing to ignore facebook being a requirement, yeah. It’s still a versatile headset, regardless of it’s downsides.

Best value for VR (as of end of 2022 Q4)… if your OK with the potential for data misuse.

My first VR headset was the Oculus Rift. The Meta Quest 2 is definitively an upgrade. The standalone VR is way better than I was expecting and in and of itself worth the price. However the Meta Link (wired) to a pc works however over is a tedious pain, hence minus one star.Steam VR over Meta Quest 2 Link PC hardward considerations:1. Computer should support usb 3.0 or greater… 2.0 works but not much of an upgrade over original Rift.2. USB Link speed determines max Steam VR resolution / refresh rate (My USB 2.0 link is 72Hz at full resolution, increasing refresh rate lowers resolution).3. Max power available over USB Link (just because it’s 3.0 doesn’t mean it will have enough power to play AND charge the Meta Quest 2 at the same time)4. a PCIe add in card with a direct connection to the power supply is recommended to charge AND play without slowly draining Meta Quest 2 battery.5. A “gotcha” for USB3x PCIe add in cards is the number of available PCI express lanes available for the card to operate at “full speed” (Note: a PCI express lane is not to be confused with a PCIe motherboard slot: PCI express lanes are internal connections supported by the motherboard chip-set, not the physical motherboard slots) (example my motherboard has two PCIe slots and 16 PCI express lanes. The video card takes so many lanes the add in card will only run at USB 2.0 speeds inspite of the fact it is a USB3.2 PCIe card! If I pull my video card it would probably work )6. Beefy videocards take a lot of PCIexpress lanes (~16)7. PCIe to USB3x cards operating at 10Gbs take another (4~)Steam VR over Meta Quest 2 Link PC software considerations:I have to launch Oculus software then Steam VR and then plug/unplug/re-plug the headset and sometimes reboot and relaunch everyting to get the order correct for the link to work. It’s almost as if Meta is intentionally being difficult…Personal data considerations:Then of course there is the fact that all of your choices, game play time, vr room choice, vr avatar choice, manerisims, reaction time, room layout, hand preference, height, voice, ect… are available to be recorded and cataloged in a database. It is not a stretch to imagine this data is put into a database and compared against target groups matching you for the purpose of influencing your purchasing choice and/or vote to the group willing to pay for the advertisment. It’s what the engineer in me would do if assigned the task… I assure you, you are not completely immune to sustained targeted influence. Even the order of the “feed” will influence your emotions and once your emotions are involved you are controllable. But yea, I bought one, it’s worth the money, just turn off most of the personal tracking features and hope they respect your/my wishes…”I, for one, welcome our supreme overlords.”

A startling, occasionally disquieting virtual reality experience for all

First, a little background. I’m 73 years old. Above average in the activity department, adept mentally, although I am literally the only person I know who can lose something when standing perfectly still. I have four grandchildren. I hold down a full-time job as a writer, and a once-a-year gig teaching Rio Grande Board Games at the annual World Boardgaming Championships (WBC).It was at the most recent WBC that I was introduced to MetaQuest 2 and in particular, its bundled game called Beat Saber. I’d tried much cheaper VR systems, the ones that hold your phone and you have to download apps to run on them. This was an entirely different ball game. This was, I should note, not a function of the WBC. It just so happened that one of the site administrators had brought the system along with him and one evening, invited me to give it a try.The first issue that one should note is that once you put the headset for this system on, you are pretty much detached from the reality around you. This is fine as long as it’s just you and the machine, but you can forget about being outside the machine and trying to instruct someone inside the machine about what’s going on. As it happened, the man who introduced me to the system basically set it up for me – put it on his own head, clicked the right buttons – and then transferred the headset to me. With a couple of hand prompts and a word or two, Beat Saber, the program that comes with the MetaQuest 2 when you buy it these days, came on line and there I stood, with two controllers, one in each hand, as my eyes beheld on the screen in front of me, a series of square blocks coming at me, each with an arrow, pointing either up, down, right or left. The controllers operate two light sabers, one in each hand, and the object of this game is to swat the approaching blocks in the direction indicated by the arrow on them. There are also occasional large obstacles coming at you, like skinny walls, which appear like three-dimensional line drawings as they approach. You can’t swat these aside and the idea is to avoid them. In most cases, this entails just stepping out of their way, either to the right or the left, but dependent on some choices you make in Beat Saber, some of these objects can be wide and impossible to avoid unless you duck as they approach. No way to jump over them. And there’s music. At first, you don’t pick up on the idea that your swatting activity with the light sabers can occasionally be rhythmic, linked to the beat of the music. . .Beat Saber. Get it? But you’ll pick up on that fairly quickly. If you don’t dance and would like to, this is a good program that will force-feed you the concept of moving your body in beat with the rhythm of a song. You don’t realize you’re dancing because as far as you’re concerned, you’re swatting colored boxes with virtual reality light sabers. A note of caution. People familiar with the system and how it works will delight in recording video of your attempts to play the game; unbeknowst to you, ’cause you’re wrapped up in the headset and can’t see anything but what the machine is giving you to see. These people recording you will be LOL-ing themselves breathless, as you contort yourself in a relatively confined space, trying to dodge things and swat at the colored boxes.I made the mistake of failing to heed the warning that if I didn’t buy one of these systems soon, its price was going to go up. A lot. And it did. But I bought it anyway and am just beginning to tap into the available free apps and exploring the possibility of buying other ones. There’s a free Epic Roller Coaster app, which is fairly enjoyable, although oddly enough, both myself and my wife (now at home with our own MetaQuest 2) found ourselves getting a little queasy during the experience. Not sure what that’s about. She NEVER goes on real roller coasters and I do it all the time. Also found a walking-on-a-building-skeleton app that had me God knows how many stories high and though not generally afraid of heights (acrophobia), I wasn’t all that keen on walking on the available, skinny steel walkways to approach the edge. I’m in my living room, my mind knowing damn full well that I’m not only not as high as the program makes me think I am, but am, in fact, on solid ground. Yet, in an attempt to approach the edge and have a look OVER the edge, I am literally creeping forward, edging my foot out in front of me, making sure of my balance with each step. My mind absolutely refuses to grasp the concept that I am not in any danger. It should be noted that when you play in virtual reality, the mechanism has you define a space where you are going to be, literally drawing a perimeter line. It’s not because the machine is worried you might step off the big building you only think you’re on, but when you’re playing a game like Beat Saber, you want to make sure that your arm movements don’t knock over a lamp your Aunt Ethel gave you for Christmas last year, or in moving your legs around, you don’t accidentally kick the screen out of your new Smart TV.I haven’t been too excited by any of the first-person shooter kind of apps that are available. That kind of activity never lured me to the various systems that were already on the market. But I did notice and have been on the verge of pulling the trigger on some of the other activities, like table tennis, actual tennis and some other sports activities, like baseball. Am also interested in what is, at present, a small selection of board games, like Tsuro and chess (in a variety of different environments). They offer Catan (originally, Settlers of Catan) and though my interest in board games is strong, I never really liked Catan in real-time, so I’m not going to pick it up in VR.I recommend this system highly. The experience of good VR (and you can buy systems better than the basic one that I purchased) is mind-altering. It’s something to which your mind has never been previously exposed; an alternate reality with its own set of rules that takes some getting used to. It’s more expensive than pot, but unlike pot, it doesn’t just let your head create new connections and free it from everyday anxieties, it creates a reality within your brain that is intriguing to watch, hear and interact with. And as my age indicates, fun for all ages.Oh, and one other cautionary note for those of a certain advanced age. The first time I tried the system, at the WBC, my score at Beat Saber was abysmally low. So I tried again. And again. It wasn’t my hand movements with the controllers or the side-stepping away from approaching objects that got to me. It was the ducking at things that I had to let go over my head. I made the crouching moves necessary with reckless abandon. Once, again, and again. My upper thighs complained to me all of the next day. The good news is that it makes for good, healthy exercise.

    Excellent VR Headset

Have had this for almost 3 years now and I really enjoy it. Not only is it an excellent gaming system, but it also lets you exercise. For us senior citizens (65+), it’s not always easy to get out to exercise or participate in sports activities. This device lets you do that with many different types of applications. Whether its exercise, sports or game apps, there are many options that will get you moving and working those muscles and joints. I like the tennis, paddleball and ping pong ones myself. There are lots of games and apps that you can do sitting down too. There’s a jigsaw puzzle game and a casino game that I really enjoy There’s really something for everyone.I did have a problem with one of the controllers, but Meta quickly replaced it for me. Now after 3 years, I’m finding the battery doesn’t charge all the way to 100% and it seems to drain faster. Maybe time to upgrade to Quest 3 or 3S?

    So much fun

I picked this up for my teenage son as a Christmas present. I was a bit concerned about the internet connection, since we live very rural and have only a very, very slow connection. But this works without a problem. The headset is, thanks to the straps, adjustable to a wide range of head sizes. It doesn’t pinch the hair or rub or feel uncomfortable. The viewer fits around my younger daughter’s head all the way up to my husband’s very large one. There is a built-in cushion around the area it rests on the face, which keeps it from rubbing or irritating. The nose area, unfortunately, isn’t nearly as ‘all fitting’ and is rather large. My son does find it sometimes distracting, since he can glimpse a tiny bit of the ‘real’ world when glancing down. There is also an extra accessories which is placed in the headset for those who wear glasses. I’ve tried it with and without this extra piece, but didn’t have trouble with my glasses either way. The handheld controllers are comfortable in the hand, have buttons which are easy to reach, and work very well. These do have wrist straps, which work very well, too.On to the games and usage! I’m not tech-savvy, so things have to be pretty basic for me to use them. This headset is no problem. It came mostly charged and ready to go. It’s pretty self-explanatory with the menus easy to see and use when the visor is on. It took about 2 hours for the installation to download and install…but that’s thanks to our very, very, very slow connection. And we found that fast (so that tells you how quick it’d be on ‘normal’ connections). It took a bit to flip through all of the menu options and included apps to see what is there and what not. We did need to download the games, but this was no problem. There are free ones and variously priced ones, giving something for every direction and budget. Once downloaded, the games work easily with or without internet connection (depending on the game, I assume). We got the basic memory one and it has more than enough space for us.The headset battery usage lasts about 2 to 4 hours, but this depends on what games are being played as well as the screen brightness and such. So, it can vary. The hand controllers, of course, hold longer, but believe it or not, these are NOT rechargeable. They use standard AA.Clear some room space when using this. It does have an awesome mapping out application, which the kids loved to use and roam through the house with. And the games to have the player ‘draw’ the borders first. Watch flailing arms, though (we did have some accidental whacking of innocent family members going on). It is fun. Tons of fun. Some of my relatives, who tried it out for a few minutes because…who wouldn’t?…did experience a bit of a headache after 5 or so minutes of play or had a bit of dizziness. I didn’t have a problem nor do my kids, though.I’m glad we picked this up, one for both of my kids at home, and they do play together (they can chat through the headsets and such as well). Oh, and my son has streamed Netflix through it and said that it’s an odd experience as well.

Amazing price, performance and quality! One problem.

Bought for playing VRChat largely, coming from PC, and it works amazing. The screen isn’t the best of pixels but is immersive enough. Performance is very good, along with its battery life, and sturdiness. As for connecting to PC, it’s very simple with the Oculus Link and SteamVR; just need a high-speed Type-C wire that can tether to the computer. Requires a Facebook account to use, but since I’m a boomer, of course I already had one of those, haha. While I love the Oculus a lot and all its features, there’s a physical for me when using it. Every time I have used it, the headset will induce nausea, vertigo and headaches between 1-3 hours of use. People have told me that this will reduce as times goes on and the more I use it, however, this just hasn’t been the case for me. I have also grown weary of constantly setting up the tether wire, setting up boundaries and sufficient light levels… so now the headset sits in my room gaining dust. I will still pick it up once in a while to get my money’s worth but just be aware of these symptoms when using!

Oh the places youll go, though i dont think Meta was the intended vehicle

Ah, the Meta Quest—a portal to a virtual world where the laws of physics are mere suggestions, and reality is what you make of it. Or, in my case, a journey that started with high hopes and ended with a serious case of the wobbles. Strap in, because this is going to be one wild ride.First off, let’s get one thing straight: the real world? Totally overrated. Bills, traffic, weather—all of it can take a backseat. In the virtual world of Meta Quest, you’re a superhero, a space explorer, or even a ninja. It’s like living every Gen X fantasy we had while playing with our Ataris, except now the graphics are slightly better than those pixelated blocks we used to call “cutting-edge.”Speaking of Ataris, can I just say, transitioning from those clunky joysticks to the futuristic VR controllers was…an adventure. My kid took to the Meta Quest like a fish to water, zipping around like he was born with VR goggles attached to his head. Me? Let’s just say my early attempts involved a lot of flailing around and trying to figure out how to walk without bumping into virtual walls. If there was a tutorial called “VR for Gen X: How Not to Look Like a Complete Doofus,” I would have signed up in a heartbeat. Now, let’s talk about the downside of this brave new world: nausea. Oh yes, the glamorous VR nausea. You’d think floating through space or diving off cliffs would be exhilarating, but my stomach had other plans. After about twenty minutes, I had to tap out and lie down, staring at the ceiling and questioning my life choices. If you’ve ever felt like you’re on a roller coaster while standing still in your living room, you know what I mean. My kid, of course, was unfazed, laughing and bounding around in virtual bliss while I clung to reality like a lifeboat. In summary, the Meta Quest is a thrilling escape from the mundane, a chance to experience new worlds and adventures. Just be prepared for a learning curve if your gaming skills peaked with Pong, and keep some ginger ale handy for when the virtual waves start rocking your boat. It’s the perfect way for us Gen Xers to try and keep up with the millennials, even if it means taking a few breaks to regain our equilibrium. So, dive in, have fun, and remember: the virtual world is a blast—just don’t forget your sea legs!

    Lets Escape Reality

The Meta Quest 2 VR headset is a notable advancement in virtual reality technology, offering several key features and improvements over its predecessor. Here is a comprehensive review based on its specifications, performance, and overall user experience.Design and Comfort:The Meta Quest 2 is lighter and more comfortable compared to the original Quest, featuring an improved strap system and a more balanced weight distribution. The adjustable straps ensure a secure fit, and the optional Elite Strap accessory enhances comfort for extended use. The headset’s minimalist white design is aesthetically pleasing and modern.Display and Performance:Equipped with a higher resolution display of 1832 x 1920 pixels per eye, the Meta Quest 2 delivers crisp and clear visuals, significantly reducing the screen door effect. The increased refresh rate, which can go up to 90Hz, provides smoother motion and a more immersive experience. Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 platform and 6GB of RAM, the Quest 2 offers substantial performance improvements, enabling more complex and visually demanding applications.Controllers and Tracking:The Meta Quest 2 includes updated Oculus Touch controllers, which are more ergonomic and provide improved tracking accuracy. The inside-out tracking system uses external cameras on the headset to track movement, eliminating the need for external sensors. This makes the setup process straightforward and user-friendly.Software and Content:The Quest 2 supports a wide range of VR content from the Oculus Store, including games, educational experiences, and productivity applications. It also offers backward compatibility with Quest 1 titles. Additionally, the headset can be connected to a PC via Oculus Link, allowing access to the vast library of PC VR content on platforms like SteamVR.Ease of Use:Setting up the Meta Quest 2 is simple and quick, with clear instructions provided through the Oculus mobile app. The headset’s wireless nature and built-in tracking make it convenient for users who do not want to deal with cables or external sensors.Battery Life:The Quest 2 offers an average battery life of 2 to 3 hours, depending on the intensity of the usage. While this is adequate for most sessions, it may require frequent recharging for extended use. The Elite Strap with Battery accessory is available for those who need longer playtime.Privacy and Data:One area of concern is the requirement of a Facebook account to use the device, which raises privacy and data security questions for some users. Meta has stated intentions to provide alternatives, but this remains a notable point of contention.Price and Value:Starting at a competitive price point, the Meta Quest 2 is one of the most affordable high-quality VR headsets on the market. It offers exceptional value given its advanced features, performance, and extensive content library. Conclusion:The Meta Quest 2 VR headset is a significant step forward in making virtual reality more accessible and enjoyable. Its combination of high-resolution displays, powerful performance, ease of use, and extensive content library makes it an excellent choice for both newcomers and experienced VR enthusiasts. Despite concerns regarding the mandatory Facebook integration, the overall package provided by the Quest 2 is impressive and well worth considering for anyone interested in VR technology.

First VR that is truly “entry level”, but with some catches.

Ok, I have to say, this is what I was waiting for. VR that wouldn’t break the budget. On some sales, it can be had as cheaply as $200, which is amazing for a true VR system. Well, it’ll be $250, and you get $50 back that you can spend on other stuff, like games, which you’re going to need to buy for it anyway.I also like that you don’t need to set up sensors.. you can take it with you! That’s so cool and conveniant!I had heard bad things about the onboard speakers, but I found them to be quite good for what they are, and perfectly usable, with excellent 3D head tracking! If you don’t like them, you can always just plug in some earbuds of your choosing. The meta store has a nice selection of games and software that often go on sale, and have a fantastic “sponsored” system, where if you take someone’s recommendation, you get 25% off and they get a $5 credit, and once you purchase and recommend, you get $5 to spend on some other purchase. I got quite a few cool games for $100, half of which was covered by my initial $50 credit. I’m more than happy in this area. Only complaint? The Meta “library” where you browse titles is kinda clunky, but I don’t have hundreds of games, so it’s ok for now. The games do have less depth and replayability than regular games, that seems to be the nature of VR.Now, for the downsides.- right off the bat, if you’ve tried other systems that are more expensive like Playstation VR or PC VR, you’ll notice the graphics look.. um.. very primitive in games. The 3D processing power seems to be somewhere between a Nintendo 64 and a Gamecube, sorry to be blunt about it. However, developers are doing creative things to get around it as best they can. It is what it is, when you use “budget” tech.- I’m not sure if it’s due to the lack of external sensors, or if it’s the weak processors choking, but semi-regularly the head tracking “stutters” which is really off putting, and takes you out of the game and immersion, and makes motion sickness worse. You’ll be looking around, and even if it’s for a few frames here and there, it’s just not always smooth. It’s not a total game breaker, but again, there are real sacrifices to using cheaper, simpler hardware.- You will have to buy some accessories to get the most of this system. The headstrap that comes with it is functional to an extent with casual games and short playtimes, and VERY travel friendly, being just an elastic strap, and the battery life is very short for the syste, but the good news is, there’s lots of choices out there for better headsets that have built in extended batteries, and they’re not super expensive. I picked up a black friday headset with a built in battery for $25. That’s great! I also recommend a carrying case to keep the system all together and safe.I haven’t tried linking the system to my PC, but I’ve heard that can bring out even more possibilities to what games you play.So that’s about it so far. I have heard a complaint that Facebook can take your whole system offline if you get reported on your facebook account, so that’s horrifying. maybe don’t use your real facebook account when you setup the system just to be safe.Summary: the best system on a budget, with some drawbacks. I think if money is tight but you want your kids to experience VR, this is perfect. That’s where I’m at, so I’m happy with it.Pictured with third party headstrap and case, two accessories I feel are necessities for the system.

    Thorough review

This will be thorough and I will cover everything I can. This is a great console, don’t get me wrong. It has changed my life. However, oculus makes this with the cheapest possible materials. When a replaceable part breaks, they want it shipped back and you have to handle that yourself. Estimated ship time was a month To, not round trip. I told them no. The bracket at the top of the goggles that you feed the strap through, broke off entirety. It’s flexible plastic. A joke. I ordered a 3d printed replacement and will be fixing it myself. Meanwhile, I use doubled over duct tape for a top strap, to get in my daily work outs and play with friends. Be prepared to spend money on accessories, as there are alot of bad things about them. Not only are the brackets for the straps prone to breaking, so us their brand replacement strap( elite strap). The stock strap holds none of the weight, and gets uncomfortable within 5 mins. I bought a 3rd party ratchet strap, way more comfortable, and lasts me hours of use at a time. The facial padding, is terrible and there is a recall on it. So they include a silicone cover for the material, instead of a new model facial interface, lazy AF. I replaced that with a VR over brand facial interface. They come with loads of extras. 2 pad thicknesses, which are removable to be replaced, sanitary covers that are disposable etc. There is also some mix up within the community on what batteries to use. So most people buy the charge base, from Anker which is an oculus official recommendation. Don’t, they overheat and can catch controllers on fire. The batteries that come in the controllers, are nimh 1.5v single use high output batteries. Most rechargeable batteries are only 1.2v, and will /sometimes/ causing response and tracking issues. If you have more then enough light sources, it won’t be noticeable. If you have average lighting, you may have issues. There are lights, IR, in the controllers to track them in the headset, so they drain alot on the battery. I would recommend 1.5v lithium ion rechargeable AAs from tenavolt.Pros: Loads of games. Including workout options.Good for it’s price, capable. You can also tour world locations, and concerts when they are streamed.Watch TV and movies with certain apps (Netflix, YouTube, big screen, etc)Facebook integrated, for social reasons, that’s handy. Not nearly as Intimidating as people seem to think VR is. Most games are rated by standing/sitting/ or roomscale and how intense motion sickness “could” be.Ability to adjust eye spacing.Best entry level to Vr based on price and capabilitiesRefund policy on apps is great. If you have less then 2 hours of use time, and Haven’t owned the app longer then 7 days. You can refund right from the phone/PC app, no questions asked.Safety features for play space and object detection. Until you’re used to surroundings I suggest using all guardian features. Boundaries, guardian, and space sense. It will show a wall of your play space in VR to stop you from going out of bounds. Space sense projects outlines of objects and people when glancing around you, and within a few feet. Passthrough is also useful. Double tap a finger on either side of goggles, to turn on night vision external cameras to see Through the goggles. In app calorie and movement tracking for fitness. Heads up display overpay in games allow you to track fitness daily goals, while playing with the Oculus Move app. Can be intrusive in some games with extreme up or down glances.Cons:Battery life is short. As low as 1 hour for large-scale games like MMOs, as long as 3-4 hours for single player games, but rarely.Needs accessories to be user friendlyUncomfortable strapWeak parts, prone to breaking. (my unit is 2 months old and broke)Controller battery confusing. 1.5v single use nimh or 1.5v continuous lithium ion rechargeable AA, per controller.Recommended charge base, NOT SAFE. Mine constantly overheated within minutes of charging.Oculus official accessories are stupid expensive. 80-90$ for a cable for charging/PC connectionSupport is terrible /Facebook/There IS an adjustment period. Can cause disoriented sensations and motion sickness. Start out with short sessions, multiple times throughout the day/per week to adequately adjust. Takes time. I have vertigo issues and I manag d to adjust within a few weeks. First week was terrible, but fun.Passthrough safety function can accidentally be turned on, his which temporarily turns game off. Adjusting headset fit will register as double tapping. Recommended to turn it off, with experience level. There is a shortcut on the popup menu.

    Notable improvement over WMR headset

I relied on the Acer Windows Mixed Reality headset since they first came out. And, frankly, I’d be continuing to use it today if it wasn’t for the fact I STUPIDLY let my computer get updated to Windows 11 from Windows 10. Had I known Microsoft was going to kill WMR I’d have never moved to Windows 11 (which is a horrible OS all around). Water under the bridge, now. So, when I researched alternatives the Quest 2 kept coming up as popular in Steam, so for this price I took a chance. I’ve not been disappointed. It’s higher resolution and just looks better. The only negatives to me are that it’s not nearly as comfortable as the Acer rig (a strap over the top of the head is just horrific by comparison). Of course this design was necessary because of the OTHER downside: the Quest has its own built-in OS and can run completely independent of a computer. I have zero use for this. I use VR for two games: Elite Dangerous and Star Wars Squadrons. I have no interest in using the headset independently, and I have it connected via USB to my computer. I’ll never use the Quest 2 in standalone. So, if they made a version that didn’t have any built-in capability I’ll bet it would much lighter and have a better wear design.

    Fun

It’s a fun all in one VR but it’s not a big jump from the Go version like you would think. It’s worth buying for gaming but if you just like to watch VR and not a big gamer then I would just buy the Go. The PQ is not alot better and you would only notice if you side by side the quest2 and Go to see it. Sound hands down is better on the Go it has more of a surround FX and is clearer in sound over all then the quest 2 only thing quest 2 has over the Go in sound it has way more bass. Some apps I like on the Go are not on the quest 2 which I see as dumb because you would understand if the Go could not play quest 2 apps then okay because you would think the Go does not have the better video card, processor or whatever but for the quest 2 not to have Go apps you had before is just dumb and shows lack of backwards compatible from oculus. I was very dispointed with the Oculus quest 2 out of the box because I was thinking it was going to be blowing the Oculus Go out of the water in every which way but it does not. Onces your over the dispointment like I was it’s not bad the quest 2 if you look at it as it’s just different then the Go and not as better. Quest 2 you need to change refresh rate to 120hz in setting and you can get a third party app to help changes more setting to make the quest 2 have a better PQ so keep that in mine you can YouTube all that if you want to know more. I don’t like some things on the quest 2 seem like a down grade from the Go version like Sound, there no sound volume numbers anymore like 1 to 15 on the Go,there no display brightness anymore, the power and sound buttons in a different location then the Go and there not in a better spot I think, even the charging light is now in a dumb spot which is on the side of the quest 2 so now you have to pick it up to see if it’s charged or tilt your head to see it when on the Go it’s right on top of it so boom you can see it a mile away without picking it up it’s charged, head strip is more uncomfortable on the quest 2 then the Go out of the box yes you can get a upgraded strip with added battery from Oculus but that extra money. There was just some dumb moves made by Oculus on the quest 2 but not saying there where not go moves made too like the controls there are two they track your hands and you do not need to even uses controls at times because you can track your own hands. The extra cameras on the quest 2 are nice you can tap the side of the Quest 2 to turn them on to see where your going and not have to remove the VR off your face, you can now walk in VR walk and look around more way better then the Go version there. You can adjust your eye lens good move there. Is it super faster then the Go no but it is a faster VR all in one then the Go which still helps in fast moving gaming. So get the quest 2 if you game and play more games then watch VR but if your just a VR watcher like using it to sit in a roller coaster, looking at mountain, look at shows, movies, plays, magic shows and etc….. Just things you sit and watch then buy the Go and save lots of money you do not need the quest 2.

    Great VR!

I was up in the air on which VR I would purchase for my children. After lots of research, i decided to purchase the Meta Quest. I am overjoyed with the purchase! This VR offers everything I had anticipated and has a great selection of available games and apps. I highly recommend this product if you want to stay cost conscience while also having a great product.
